...to let trump's actions stand without removal from office will fundamentally alter our Constitution and country...Republicans will have, for all intents and purposes, turned the Presidency into a 'dictatorship' totally above the law...
...Justice Dept. can't charge a sitting President with a crime and any President will now be free to ignore Congressional subpoenas and oversight while thwarting any Congressional investigations into his crimes, rendering the impeachment clause impotent...
...i.e., the President's above the law...can do no wrong...can do whatever he wants...no one can stop him...
...where would we be without Adam Schiff and the Managers making the case for the saving of the Republic?...this is no small moment in history, folks...
...to me, this ranks up there with the American Revolution and Civil War...turning an accountable Presidency into a dictator or monarch will change our country forever...
...let's look back to what I believe is a similar situation and time,

" Hitlers emergence as chancellor on January 30, 1933, marked a crucial turning point for Germany and, ultimately, for the world. His plan, embraced by much of the German population, was to do away with politics and make Germany a powerful, unified one-party state. He began immediately, ordering a rapid expansion of the state police, the Gestapo, and putting Hermann Goering in charge of a new security force, composed entirely of Nazis and dedicated to stamping out whatever opposition to his party might arise. From that moment on, Nazi Germany was off and running, and there was little Hindenburg or von Papenor anyonecould do to stop it."

...let's hope the Republicans get real serious and reflect upon what they're about to do...if they don't, we have a lot of nasty shit in our future to look forward to...
...let's hope they come to their senses...

(51,604 posts)And I am serious. I just finished watching the 8th of the Holocaust films/documentaries I recorded about 3 hours ago. It was The Sorrow and the Pity. One of the French Resistance fighters said that it started in 1934 in France. The atmosphere was promoting fighting each other in high schools, churning up Nationalism, hatred, etc in the media and all over. It started out as anti-Communism, anti-Semitism, anti-this and anti-that and got everyone all worked up and ready to "pick sides".

(19,986 posts)on February 27, there was an arson attack on the Reichstag building that led to the Reichstag Fire Decree the next day. And only 24 days later the Enabling Act passed. The combined effect of the two laws was to transform Hitler's government into a legal dictatorship.
Legal dictatorship can happen fast when you got your enablers in place!!!

Article III, Section 3Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court.
The Congress shall have power to declare the punishment of treason, but no attainder of treason shall work corruption of blood, or forfeiture except during the life of the person attainted.
There is overwhelming evidence of many Republicans adhering to, and giving aid to, Putin's Russia.
