The outcome is known; all the "defense" arguments are actually about the post-acquittal politics

None of the arguments are really about persuading senators to vote to not remove, because everybody knows that ain't happening.

They're taking acquittal as a given, and using the whole charade as a chance to push the propaganda they want to accompany the acquittal.

The primary thing they had been pushing was the baseless Biden smear. Great free airtime for the smear against a likely opponent in November. Many have pointed out that any Biden discussion is a distraction it is irrelevant. But that misses the point. The entire "defense" has nothing to do with actudd actually defending someone when the fix is in. It's all about the politics.

But derpowitz's argument that anything donnie does is ok raises the stakes considerably.

Again. Do not mistake this for a defense. Nothing they do is a defense, it's all about the politics after acquittal.

Meaning, once the acquittal is in and Donnie has officially gotten away with blatant high crimes and misdemeanors, he will operate under the effective rule that there is simply no consequence to anything he does.

Derpowitz's argument is Donnie's enabling act.

He has operated as a wannabe dictator up to this point; he will operate as an actual dictator after.

He will cheat to win in November and we will not be able to hold him to account.

he won't leave office and no one will force him to.

No one has been able to enforce anything so far.
