The rules state that:
XIV. The Secretary of the Senate shall record the pro ceedings in cases of impeachment as in the case of legisla- tive proceedings, and the same shall be reported in the same manner as the legislative proceedings of the Senate.


Statements made during legislative proceedings are not anonymous. Plus the rules require the senate chamber doors be open during impeachment proceedings. Anonymous questions would be inconsistent with that requirement.

That being said I haven’t checked to see how things were handled during the Clinton impeachment trial.
