NYT: Prince Andrew Offers 'Zero Cooperation' in Epstein Case, Prosecutor Says
The United States attorney in Manhattan said the prince had not responded to their requests.
Federal prosecutors and the F.B.I. have sought to interview Prince Andrew about Jeffrey Epstein, but he has provided zero cooperation, the United States attorney in Manhattan said on Monday.
Geoffrey S. Berman, the United States attorney, revealed Prince Andrews lack of cooperation in response to a reporters question during a news conference outside Mr. Epsteins Upper East Side mansion about victims of human and sex trafficking.
Prince Andrew, following a disastrous TV interview over his ties to Mr. Epstein, said in a statement late last year that he was willing to help law enforcement agencies in their investigations into the disgraced financier.
Of course, I am willing to help any appropriate law enforcement agency with their investigations, if required, his statement said.
Mr. Epstein hanged himself last summer at a jail in Manhattan, where he was awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking and conspiracy charges. Prosecutors had accused him of sexually exploiting dozens of women and girls in New York and Florida.
Shortly after Mr. Epsteins death, Mr. Berman issued a statement vowing to continue the investigation into his co-conspirators.
The case brought renewed scrutiny to Mr. Epsteins relationships with prominent figures in politics, academic and business including Prince Andrew.
The prince met Mr. Epstein in 1999.
