Before his interview with Sen. Warren and during his interview with Michael Schmidt. Called it the biggest revelation of the whole saga apart from news of the call, itself. My question to you is: Do you think it shakes 50 or 51 votes free in the senate for witnesses and delays the planned acquittal party next week at all?

(17,635 posts)...im in rears the whole time i watch the coverage but at least when they talked about the good things Kobe did it was refreshing that someone was doing something good for someone!
Im honestly just now knowing him other than the name recognition he had. Im mourning as a mother not a sports fan..I cant even imagine the pain his wife is feeling...or the pain the other parent is going through..losing a spouse and a child.

(86,775 posts)MSNBC seems to have dedicated most of its time covering and providing analysis and fact checking everything that is said by everyone and all hands are on deck with rotating schedules and coverage that flows from one show to the next with extra replays of some. The replays go on well into the wee hours on weeknights and weekends right now.
Far as I can tell, they are doing a good job of trying to inform the public of what's happening and what it means. They are living up to their mission and I appreciate it.
Of course tonight there's continuing coverage of Kobe Bryant's passing that's taking up 70% of the time right now.

(5,271 posts)He made sure to keep quiet clinching his book deal before turning over book to WH and then agreeing to testify to Senate (knowing that WH would claim that if subpoened they would claim executive privilege so it would never happen)
But seems Bolton didn't count on his book details getting leaked out by anonymous moles in WH and throwing a wrench in all the Repubs schemes.

(42,770 posts)an asshole trump is, then leaking might be a great idea? Heard he was going out, not aligned with establishment Republcan party...never gonna have a high powered govt job again ( because Republicans won't be in power), just thinking about retirement and $ to sustain his life style.

(5,271 posts)Trump's lawyers in Senate trial have asserted that he did not withhold aid for investigations of Biden and have been floating other excuses such as looking into corruption, wanting other countries to pay more to help Ukraine, etc.

(81,451 posts)Hopefully in a large enough number that we get the Senate back.
And then, say goodbye to rubber-stamping all those knuckledragger judges and packing the courts from coast to coast. Say goodbye to ol Moscow. Even if he survives the next election, if WE take back the Senate he wont have the power of the Majority Leader anymore. He wont be able to obstruct anymore, at least with much of a punch. Hell be a has-been, but might still present a nuisance.
And there could be Senate investigations.
Plus, all those bills the House passed and then got buried in the Senate? No more of THAT CRAP either. Things weve been kept from doing, we can get done - particularly if we take back the White House also.

(21,601 posts)This trial is not about a search for the truth. They (Senators) know the truth. The trial is about developing the right GOP spin on the truth that will protect Trump from removal. From the perspective of Senate Pubs, the ONLY thing that matters is maintaining power, at all costs. Nothing will move them from that position. Many of them actually do believe that it is ok to use any trick in the book (or outside of it) to smear an opponent. Therefore, even with proof of what Trump did, it is not an impeachable offense in their minds.
The only thing to be accomplished by news like Bolton's book is the effect on public opinion, not on the Senators, whose position is set in stone.
EndlessWire
(6,563 posts)But, it would help to perhaps embarrass them further, so when they vote to acquit, they will be fully informed about their place in history.
I would suggest that Trump already has their balls on pikes, and long ago...

(21,601 posts)is apathy. Not everyone follows news and politics like DUers. Trump's dedicated followers will remain strong defenders of him. People like us will remain opponents and active resisters.
What about the rest? The people who did not follow the impeachment hearings and are not following the trial? They see headlines, get snippets on TV. Will they be indifferent and too concerned about their daily lives to see what's happening and take a stand?

He is insane but the worst of the worst are his fans who adore him like a God-King. You won't shake them off him, even if he left public life. If he died tomorrow, they would erect a statue to him the very next day.

(5,271 posts)He could have just obeyed Congress subpoena and fully testified to Congress and still done a book deal. Loyal Trump cultists weren't going to buy his book anyway knowing that he resigned in protest over Trump. By sending book to WH for vetting he surely knew he would face wrath of Trump and attempts to silence him plus likelihood of leaks where Trump would call him a liar making him unpopular with Trump's base.
Lots of speculation now that Trump's hit on Iranian general that came 3 days after WH got his book draft was no coincidence since it pleased Bolton who has publicly praised the hit. Wouldn't put it past Trump to have thought he could get Bolton to back down on his claims in the book if he got tougher on Iran.

Reagan attacked the Caribbean Island of Grenada
Bush I attacked Panama
Bush Jr. attacked Iraq because Rumsfeld and Cheney lied to him ("Maybe six days, maybe six weeks, certainly not six months" ). It was a miscalculation, not a change in policy.
Republicans do NOT attack countries they KNOW will shoot back. Iran and NK would shoot back.
