Adam Schiff responds to Bolton report

Adam Schiff ✔ @RepAdamSchiff

The President blocked our request for Bolton’s testimony.

Now we see why:

Bolton directly contradicts the heart of the President’s defense.

If the trial is to be fair, Senators must insist that Mr. Bolton be called as a witness, and provide his notes and other documents.

It's incredibly likely that any passages implicating Trump will be expunged/censored by Trump and his lawyers before it is released. (Trump could even block its publication entirely.)

.... classification is not arbitrary, we already have had one such attempt derailed - the whistle blowers report of Trump's conversation being stored on a classified server. Denying publication for a whole book would be impossible... it wouldn't stand up in court.

So, unfortunately, yes.

However, the call notes that Trump himself released back in September were plenty damning. We don't need Bolton's book - we already have absolute proof from the criminal himself.

SCOOP: Bolton book draft, circulated to associates and sent to WH for review process, describes a convo w POTUS where he says he doesn't want to release withheld aid till Ukraine turned over material related to investigations

On edit:

Bolton spox tells @meridithmcgraw: “The Ambassador sent the draft manuscript to the White House for pre-publication review by the NSC several weeks ago. The Amb. has not circulated the draft manuscript to anyone else for review. There was one hard copy that was sent to the NSC.”

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/26/us/politics/trump-bolton-book-ukraine.html

Brief excerpt:

Multiple people described Mr. Bolton’s account of the Ukraine affair.

The book presents an outline of what Mr. Bolton might testify to if he is called as a witness in the Senate impeachment trial, the people said. The White House could use the pre-publication review process, which has no set time frame, to delay or even kill the book’s publication or omit key passages.

Over dozens of pages, Mr. Bolton described how the Ukraine affair unfolded over several months until he departed the White House in September. He described not only the president’s private disparagement of Ukraine but also new details about senior cabinet officials who have publicly tried to sidestep involvement.

Bidens? Crowdstrike? THAT is exactly why I would love to read it for myself...everyone who links back to the original NYT report uses their own language. Originally Maggie/NYT said "investigations" (which they already admit as you say) NOT "Democrats", NOT "Bidens", etc. {on edit - which is what various other tweets/reports say about the original NYT scoop}

SOME source/s released info on the manuscript outside of protocol - was it friends of trump setting us up? Is it people who don't like trump setting him up? Is it just to establish a non-questionable need for witnesses to be called?

must come out on TV, just like Lev Parnas has and tell all, that is the best service to your country you can do today, future history is on your hands. Bolton should understand that today he may have the greatest opportunity life will ever give him to shape the future of his country, silence on his part will bring chaos, but coming out will bring peace. How many times does life deal you the winning cards, the four aces?

I understand Bolton wants to sell books, and doesn't want to give much to affect those sales, but I think it will actually boost the sales of his books because everyone will want to have that piece of history.
