Genocide expert breaks down how all the warning signs are present in 45's America

https://www.rawstory.com/2020/01/genocide-expert-breaks-down-how-all-of-the-warning-signs-are-present-in-trumps-america/

Defense research scientist and genocide expert Brynn Tannehill laid out a terrifying warning on Thursday about President Donald Trump’s administration.

As the United States Senate conducted an impeachment trial for the commander-in-chief, Tannehill posted an extended Twitter thread examining the situation in America from her perspective as a researcher studying the conditions that lead to genocide.

ICE is already blazing the genocide trail, according to me. Leghorn21 Jan 2020 #4

If he wins again I have little doubt he will begin to purge groups he despises.

Like Democratic impeachment managers.

If he's acquitted, he'll try to have them prosecuted as traitors.

He's a sociopath. Would not be surprised.

In fact, watching Sam Bee tonight, I'm imagining her imprisoned!

They do what they want, when they want. What is preventing them from capturing and disappearing, for instance, you or me? Not one motherfucking thing.

I believe that because the genocide being talked about here would be intertwined with civil war here in the U.S., and I don't think we're very close to that, either. There are a number of reasons for this that Tannehill, at least in the posted analysis, didn't address, though she did hint at democracies being less susceptible- taking longer to get to the point of- such atrocities.

#1- She doesn't address the state of the US economy right now, which is doing well. Economic scapegoating just isn't that popular right now (at least not as popular as a more generalized, nationalistic hate).

#2- She states herself that democracies/republics ("elected governments" ) take longer to fall into something like this, then goes about describing a number of tactics that we haven't yet seen in earnest against any particular group, not even just "liberals." She describes a process for creating a "second class" status, like was seen in pre-WWII Germany. We have nothing that's even close to this yet. There is no group- knock on wood- that the Trump Administration has successfully stigmatized so well that it's become accepted, society-wide, that it's ok to abuse them (closest would be how immigrants have been treated, but that hasn't been accepted at all, though it continues). Further, though I won't rule it out, it would be very difficult for things ever to get to that point. In addition to #1 above, see #'s 3 & 4 below for why.

#3- The free flow of information won't let this happen. Truth, and OUTRAGE, travel too quickly in this day and age, especially in an advanced, wealthy society like ours. People have too much time on their hands and too many opinions to express to not be acting as a check on so many of the things that surely the Trump Administration wouldn't mind doing. I've found myself saying this often: You can't stop lies and stupid ideas in this day and age, because of the Internet, and that's a problem. But you also can't stop the truth. I think that majority of people in American- the majority who believe Trump should be figuratively and/or literally thrown out of office- are acting as a genuine check, in their outrage, on the Trump Administration. Those people and their opposition to Trump are being fueled by the news and the free flow of information. Our media, as much as people like to rag on them, in the last couple of years have been doing a much better job and are actually keeping our country afloat.

Trump wants to kill the truth, but it's still going strong. At this rate, I do believe his figurative house of lies will collapse first. It's been taking a LOT of hits lately.

#4- The Trumpists just aren't that good at getting things done. Their leader is a self-absorbed incurious dunce and they're not that effective in carrying out their plans- I guess you could say "they're no NAZI's" in that regard. As awful and cruel as they are, and as much as they play to the evil in people, and as much as they'd like to run an unopposed authoritarian government- and they have and will try some things to make that happen- they're just not committed enough to what they're doing or smart enough to be able to change our culture in the necessary way in the NEAR future.

All that said, Trump winning a second term I think would be quite ominous for our country and would result in a lot of good people leaving (maybe even my family). And I can't say what kind of monstrosity the U.S. might look like a couple years after his re-election- things would be very, very bad. And things may never be the same afterward. But it would take a lot more time and I think much more effective truth-fighting and manipulation strategies and tactics on Trump's part than they're currently using to get to the point of genocide.

Not only that, but I have more faith than that that we'll be able to turn things around in the coming election.

Really, folks- I think it's important to recognize that we are winning this fight. REALLY! I know it often doesn't seem that way because of the unreality and frustration of the constant stream of lies coming from Trump and his ilk, from his Twitter bully pulpit. But we currently have MORE THAN HALF of the country who want to throw this guy OUT of the White House. And the truth about his actions is out there and accessible in the media. All is not lost, oh no, and that star-spangled banner does yet wave o'er the land of the free...
