Chuck Schumer Says Public Pressure Is Getting To McConnell

From the article:

Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump will do everything to prevent four people from joining us in our quest for witnesses and documents. But with powerful speeches like Schiff, with Republicans hearing the whole narrative and the whole story for the first time who knows what happens?

And then just one more, there’s a second point. How did we get the few changes? Pressure, public pressure matters. And Americans who saw this presentation not just liberals but moderates and even Republicans have been moved by it. And that puts pressure on some of these Republicans. When McConnell did his resolution, the public pressure to have a fair trial and a fair resolution was so strong, that he had to make a few changes. He had to give us three days, the managers three days instead of two. He had to submit the house record of evidence. That didn’t happen because McConnell wanted to. He was pressured.....

But then again, I didn't think McConnell would be able to hold up the Garland nomination for an entire year, that he'd eventually crack under the pressure to act. Well, the pressure never really came and McConnell held firm. Then Needy Amin was declared the winner of the 2016 election, and McConnell's gambit paid off bigly.

The pressure this time around is being brought, and good job citizens! Will McConnell crack? Couldn't tell you. But my long-distance reading of him makes me think of nothing so much as Slim Pickens as Major Kong riding that nuclear bomb right down to the ground at the end of Dr. Strangelove. McConnell may feel like he's strapped in, plummeting towards earth, and the only thing to do is wave his hat and yell "Yahoo!"

But I think there was also a feeling that Clinton was going to beat Trump in the general, so if McConnell held up the Garland nomination in 2016, he'd just be back in 2017. A grave, but understandable, miscalculation.

Democrats don't seem to be leaving much room for error this time around. I've been impressed by their good work, resolve, and sustained effort. My gauge is that it's been effective because of the handful of news reports fretting that the Democrats are in danger of making too effective a presentation. (Yeah, it's a moronic argument, but apparently all some reporters have to work with.)

Call the Senate...it takes literally less than 5 minutes. I called 41 of them on Tues and it took little time. I finished them yesterday (I pretend I am a constituent and leave a message about insulting my intelligence by not allowing me to hear witnesses).

Keep calling since their mailboxes aren't full...why aren't people calling like they did during the ACA vote?!?

I sit through a canned message in his voice how he's working so hard for Ohioans and please leave a message. Calls placed earlier this afternoon had no 'beep' to signal the start of the message. I just tried again and this time I got the beep but I had no sooner identified myself than the message cut in and thanked me for calling and hung up.

What was supposed to be a quiet demonstration, escalated to officers ordering protestors to leave the Huntington Plaza where Senator Rob Portman operates an office.

Wednesday, Columbus police released officer body camera video showing portions of the ordeal.

"It just went from what I think of as a peaceful protest to there were lots of police and a lot of pushing and a lot of shoving," said Dr. Julie Williams, who is a professor in Dayton and attended Friday's event.

Williams has a form of dwarfism and lives with significant hearing loss."

Believing Republican Senators are hearing this information for the first time. Have they been on Mars? The hearings in the House went on for days.

Granted, people like Marsha Blackburn could be clueless, but the rest needed to know this stuff.

Keep whittling away at that Republican thinking that they are right and everyone else is wrong.

Sooner or later some are going to get some nagging doubts . . . "perhaps it isn't the rest of the world that is out of step, perhaps it is me?"

Seeds of doubt tend to grow in the darkness, in the small hours of the morning, when the human mind subjects itself to some honest self examination.
(Trump is the rare exception to this, but it seems the reptilian mind isn't capable of abstract self examination.)
