Republican Sen. Mike Braun of Indiana is the latest to admit that what President Donald Trump has done was wrong, but he still wont vote to kick the president out of office.
Speaking to Fox News congressional reporter Chad Pergram, Braun made his conclusions after the House spent a little over one day making their case. No witnesses have been called nor has evidence been subpoenaed from the White House. But Braun already agrees Trump is guilty of what the House is accusing him.
Where I am coming from, is that, probably the discussion of all of this wasnt appropriate, its obviously gotten the president into an entanglement, he said. It is just not impeachable. And the sentences either youre gone. You dont get off. You know, for probation.
I think that all of this has to boil down to the fact that working in a process where your verdict is binary, he also said. This is a death sentence or any elected official, and you better have a case.

(82,849 posts)Okay, you have a case, but it's still not enough. I'm okay with Donald Trump selling out the country because I got to wet my beak, too. So long, suckers!
Apparently Sen. Braun has not been informed that Donald Trump has been impeached. He'd like to believe that Trump's transgressions aren't impeachable, but that's not his call. But like any good law-n-order conservative, Braun suddenly goes all squishy on high crimes and misdemeanors when it's one of his own in the dock. And it's just inconceivable to Braun that Trump could lose his high office for his crimes. Sure, people get hit with heavy sentences all the time, but what is 25 or 30 years in prison, or life in prison without the possibility of parole, compared to getting kicked out of the White House? Trump did the crime, but he shouldn't do the time, right Mike?

(70,516 posts)Ahem, Senator Braun they have a case Chairman Schiff and others have laid it all out
right in front of you and in many cases using their own words too. The case is rock solid
even with the withholding of evidence and witnesses by the DoJ & the White House.

REPORTER: So you're saying that it's okay for a President to ask a foreign leader to investigate a political rival and withhold foreign aid to coerce him into doing so?
BRAUN: No, I'm not saying that's okay. I'm not saying that's appropriate. I'm saying that it DIDN'T HAPPEN.
