Schumer: There are no bipartisan talks on trial witnesses

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer told reporters the two political parties are not discussing a deal to allow witness testimony in President Trump’s impeachment trial.

“No Republicans are talking to us about deals,” the New York Democrat said Thursday.

Democrats want the Senate to subpoena four Trump administration officials and three sets of documents, all related to their charge that the president abused the power of his office to pressure Ukrainian officials to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden by withholding critical security aid to the country.

“We want these four witnesses and these sets of documents,” Schumer said. “Not a single Republican has approached me and said, 'What about this? What about this one? What about that?'" Schumer said, calling a media report on Democrats weighing a trade-off involving testimony from Biden’s son Hunter “false, and now everyone is jumping on it.”
