(11,740 posts)TOO MUCH IGNORANCE on the differences.
Socialism has been turned (ON PURPOSE) into a boogeyman. Of course the wealthy do not want the billions and millions that they extract from our labor, to be taken back and redistributed in the form of social programs and a safety net. They are ENTITLED to their money because their parents started a company once, 50 years ago or because they had an idea and used the benefits of society through our taxes, to gain advantages and build a successful business. This is what President Obama was talking about when he said, "you didn't build that". He should have said, "You built it, but you had A LOT of help". We all deserve that help so that we have security and time for leisure and other pursuits. Other advanced economies seem to have it figured out to different extents.
America is very backwards in our relation to money, wealth, and power. It is ignorance of the benefits of mixed economic models that keeps us in the weird situation of being the most powerful economic force on the planet, but ranking lower than most other countries with similar economies in the areas of life that signify health and well being.

(11,740 posts)She has consistently stated that people who are successful should have the fruits of their success but they should understand that they used public roads, fire dept, police, and all kinds of other benefits that we have paid for collectively.
That is the point. Republicans like to pretend that people who are poor are so because they are lazy when the reality is that most of the poor are working and working hard, but don't earn enough to cover their expenses.
We are also sold this idea of opulence and consumerism that drives us into debt. Economics is complicated but there are definitely people who want to promote an agenda that keeps them paid and in power.
