Do they think we just fell of that proverbial turnip truck. They are seriously going to try and say because the Ukrainians finally got the money the congress approved for them.. after Trump tried to use same said funds to get them to meddle in our elections...that no obstruction was committed. No crime to see...
Give me a break..
Lets try this example... Say a woman contracts with a hit-man for her husband to be killed. But she gets caught before the action happens and the money does not exchange hands, that somehow in their special world.. she gets a by for that.. that intent does not count. You think for a second she does not go to jail??? Intent is a crime..
I am the one that cannot believe that they are that stupid that they are actually going to try and sell that to us.

(9,481 posts)As I believe, they are okay with this turn toward Fascism because they are "winning".

(14,174 posts)Maybe its related to America's fierce sport team fanaticism. But it seems like its like a big game to many. Even more so for Republican voters. Conservatives are more prone to adhere to authoritarianism, and to be more rigid and less liberal in looking at other viewpoints.
And has a lot to do with daytime RW political talk radio so prevalent in Red States which keeps them UNinformed and DISinformed.
But it also seems like its more about voting how your whole family has traditionally voted. My party right or wrong. And its about WINNING. Not winning good policy for your family, but simply to brag that your side won the "game".

(11,495 posts)and that's all they are care about right now. Peoples minds are pretty much made up. You either love trump, like his brain dead base, or you can't stand him at all, which is the majority of voters.
I really doubt there are many voters who are sitting on the fence, and don't know which way to vote.
It's all about having a huge turnout, a blue wave that will wash trump and his gang right out of office.

(3,493 posts)They know perfectly well all of this is illegal and impeachable but they dont care because no one is going to do anything about it. All we can do is impeach him and theyll let him off. We dont have a rule of law anymore after this. We dont have a functioning government anymore after this. We barely had one before this. Now its truly broken.

(92,229 posts)is they don't see what trump did as impeachable.
I suspect a lot of them don't appreciate the gravity of what trump and his cronies have done, and the danger it poises to our Democracy

(5,240 posts)They don't care what anyone else thinks. If 45 is pleased, his base is pleased. They are afraid of being primaried and counting on the base getting out and voting for them. They are hoping that dems will get discouraged and stay home, which happens. They are also afraid of getting caught in all of this criminality themselves.

(23,116 posts)They care about themselves & personal profit and power for the oligarch class - that is all. They think that Russia will steal the election for them with massive data hacking, if they just play along. That's all this is, pleasing the oligarchs (PUtin) in charge so they keep their jobs and dont have to take care of "we the people" because Russia is paying the bills. That is all they care about right now - saving Russia so PUtin can ensure their re-election. They are stupid and don't think he will turn on them - which he 100% will when he's gotten all he can from those asshole traitors.

(4,035 posts)They also dont give a damn about what their ignorant base thinks or needs. All they want is to be able to snow them enough to get their vote, then the base gets just as f.....ed over as the rest of us, our planet, and society in general.
The base, so far as I can glean, is centered not on a platform of policy issues, but on their one central issue, most often guns or abortion. For those two reasons alone they sell their soul to the devil. Guns and abortion - thats it. Those two issues alone are enough for them to forgo democracy.
The base as it is described or alleged, is under educated and lives on less than millionaire status. They are led like sheep, living by their one issue, and seem to have limited means, to put it nicely. Hence the term, There is nothing more pathetic than a poor Republican. If youre not stinking rich, in reality, Republican leadership doesnt give a shit about you. The base just cant seem to wake up to the reality that we are one breath away from dictatorship, and they think its a good thing.
Other sordid issues get carried with the stench of their party. That caging children and separating them from their parents is acceptable is carried into their simple beliefs by the hate and fear being preached from a wanna-be dictator and his collaborators. I tend to believe that they are so stupid that they actually want poisoned air and water, chemicals in our streams and waterways, and mining in every back yard in America.
I am fearful of the future if this lunatic gets re-elected.

(23,957 posts)underestimating the Republicans' capacity for self-serving viciousness has been a mistake i've made for much of my adult life. i won't do it anymore and i will caution others against it as well. make no mistake, they are a deadly enemy holding all the tools they need to re-make the state in their image. you do not owe them fealty but you'd be wise to regard them with extreme caution.

Plus, Senate Republicans was not prepared for House Dems to be ready with facts, and as quoted from Graham "well spoken".

(11,738 posts)Hoping to catch the attention of people who typically aren't focused on politics.
Most of us who are on DU regularly have a sense of what is accurate. We see information from all over the place and we seek out explanations of information presented, we look for reputable sources.
The kind of person that Republicans are trying to "sell to" are people who watch Fox, or who don't typically watch news at all.
They aren't stupid, they are cynical and conniving.

(2,015 posts)We stomp our feet and shake our tiny ineffectual fists and they continue to do whatever the fuck they want to with no consequences.
Caliman73
(11,738 posts)That is selling it. They lie, they are always on the news shows. Conservatives/Republicans get WAY more TV time than Democrats, and especially more than Progressives. They use their time on the media to lie constantly about "values" and other crap which they do not believe.
If they didn't have to sell it, they wouldn't have invented Fox News, Right Wing Radio, and the whole media eco-system that has invaded the mainstream. They wouldn't have 6 or so major corporations owning most of the media and focusing on the horse race and the controversy rather than on substance and information.
They are definitely selling it. They are very powerful, but they are small in actual numbers. They need to sell it otherwise they would be out voted every time.

(1,236 posts)They have their base. They know their hate-filled base will believe anything they say. They believe that their base (combined with voter apathy, weariness and suppression tactics) will allow them to carry the day. They are balls-to-the-wall on this, and know if they let up they are doomed politically. There will be no let-up, only ratcheting-up.
These are indeed most dangerous times we live in.

(56,828 posts)After Sandy Hook, 95% of Americans wanted stronger background checks. Republicans united to filibuster and block in 2013
In September 2013, most Americans blamed Republicans for the Ted Cruz shutdown.
In 2014, Republicans picked up a net of NINE seats in the Senate and went from a minority to the majority party in the Senate and we soon had Moscow Mitch blocking judges, including Merrick Garland.
So, by counting on Americans to have short term memories pays off for them.
