America Is Watching
By Connie Schultz
January 23, 2020

snip//

Around midnight on the first night of the trial, I posted on Facebook and Twitter that Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff was right: It seemed that Republicans were hoping that, by dragging this out into the wee hours of the mornings, most Americans were no longer watching.

Nearly a thousand responded, after midnight, and their message was virtually universal:

"I'm watching."

And not just on the West Coast. They were watching in Ohio and Pennsylvania, in New Jersey and Maine, in Minnesota and Kansas. Many said that what they missed, they would watch on their DVRs. "Some of us have to work," one person wrote, "but I watch when I can."

Schedules were changed, bedtimes abandoned. It's what a patriot does.

Republicans have done all they could to thwart a fair trial. At the end of it, they will have their say.

American voters will have the final word.

And they've been watching.

since this fucker got into office!

I am willing to give all kinds of stuff to watch what I can't look away from. Most of us grasp the gravity of the situation, they just don't want to notice.

It feels like the least I can do to honor the work of our esteemed representatives who are trying to save our Republic. Even when it becomes repetitive, and it does, I know that a little repetition is necessary to get the message across.

I am especially here for Adam Schiff. Every moment he speaks, I am here to honor his sacrifice and hard work for us.

I hope he will run for President.

gop being examined, but also the SC. John Roberts has been less than impressive. Scolding Nadler, when it was Sekulow or the other goon Chippolone who was yelling. Easy for Roberts to snooze through this, he has a job for life. Too much to ask him to conduct this hearing as a CITIZEN? Or even as a bi-partisan judge?

has heard and seen plays out when he returns to the Court full time. Before becoming a lawyer, Roberts' studied history and planned to be a college history professor. Unlike Kavanaugh, his entire life has not been focused on getting himself on the Supreme Court.

And, last night, Roberts ruled that all 100 Senators could have access to the testimony of Jennifer Williams that the WH classified in order to hide it. I think if Roberts were asked, as presiding officer, to rule on the relevency of a witness or admissablility of evidence or other issues, he might surprise the doubters.

I am not as trusting as you seem to be, though. After all, surely he has followed the entire proceeding BEFORE this, and knows what a loser tRump is? Everyone has their opinion and I am sure Roberts does, too. Why not step up, for the sake of the country??

I'm sure they follow the news, but none have ever seen a political process play out quite so up close and personal as Roberts is seeing now. Unlike the R senators who are coming and goind or not paying attention, I think Roberts is probably listening very closely to what's being said.

Roberts worked in the WH counsel's office, too, so he knows what Cipollone's actual duties are, to defend the Office of The President, not the occupant of the office.

He's doing it now and he'll not stop. He'll act in ever more drastic and desperate ways until he wins. He'll manufacture a Patriot Act crisis and cancel the election if he has to.

Trump is up against the wall. He knows he's being squeezed. Yet he's the most powerful person on the planet, and the most amoral. He'll cheat, lie, and steal. That's always been his trade. He won't stop. And the Trump Party is paving his way.
