Tulsi Gabbard Sues Hillary Clinton Over ‘Russian Asset’ Comments

The 2016 Democratic nominee is accused of spreading lies about Gabbard to harm her 2020 presidential campaign.

Gabbard’s defamation lawsuit, filed in a New York federal court on Wednesday, claims the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee lied about Gabbard “with obvious malicious intent” to harm the congresswoman’s 2020 presidential campaign.

Clinton didn’t specifically identify Gabbard by name in the October interview with David Plouffe when she said that “somebody who’s currently in the Democratic primary” is “the favorite of the Russians” and is being groomed to become a “third-party candidate.”

A Clinton spokesperson, when later asked if it was Gabbard whom Clinton was referring to, appeared to confirm that was the case, telling a reporter: “If the nesting doll fits.”

Gabbard’s lawyers had demanded that Clinton publicly retract her comments, but to no avail. As a result, her lawsuit claims, she suffered more than $50 million in personal and professional damages.


“Scientifically conducted opinion surveys have shown that Clinton’s false, malicious statements about Tulsi were accepted as true by millions of Americans, including large numbers of voters in battleground Presidential primary states,” her lawsuit states. “In short, Clinton got exactly what she wanted by lying about Tulsi — she harmed her political and personal rival’s reputation and ongoing Presidential campaign, and started a damaging whisper campaign based on baseless, but vicious, untruths.”

HuffPost was unable to immediately reach Clinton’s team for comment.




Kind of pretzel logic on Gabbard's part - she clams damaged image and chances because Clinton's alleged comment had more effect on her chances than did her own total campaign.

This is a nuisance suit. She's a public figure fur Pete's sakes.

The firm, famously recently taking on Presidential lawyer Rudy Giuliani as a client, has had a colorful history.

The Pierce Bainbridge issues are multi-faceted. There are lawsuits from a former partner. There’s a multi-million default declared by a litigation funder. There are references to ethical violations per written judicial opinions. And there are attorneys leaving in droves.

You open yourself to full discovery. She may have (probably has) things that she doesn’t want publicized.

11. Tulski Gabbard never had a snowball's chance in Hell of getting the nomination.

Her numerous ill-considered comments alone, especially her disgusting homophobic remarks, would have torpedoed her. This is just her way of trying to stay in the news cycle. Sooner or later, the media will move on to far more relevant, pertinent developments.

In this case, count me as #teamHillary. There have been times when I have disagreed with Clinton, here and there, but in this case, she should have been allowed to say whatever she wanted. Gabbard acts like she hates the Democratic Party most of the time. I hope Clinton counter sues for Gabbard wasting her time and energy with frivolous lawsuits.


That aside, this is still a ridiculous lawsuit.

1. Nobody really believes she is a Russian asset, no matter what jokes Hillary might have made about her.
2. What is hurting her chances of winning more Democrats over to her side is that she spends so much time with her nose up Republican asses, including hanging out on Faux Noise more than anywhere else on TV, and kissing their asses and trying to appeal to them, while dissing Democrats. It's what Gabbard does. She disses Democrats every chance she gets. She should not be surprised her numbers are low with Democrats. She's not trying to appeal to Democrats. She's too busy trying to appeal to Republicans.

This is a ridiculous lawsuit.

I must admit I don't like Gabbard anyhow. Gabbard might have fooled most people, but not me. As a gay person, one thing I have learned, for sure, about pro "conversion therapy" types is that they never change from that mindset, no matter what lies they say in front of those who would tell the rest of the world the truth about them. It's how they operate. They keep that mindset, and lie about it when they feel the need to. I know their type and have been dealing with the ones like that my whole life. Trust me on this. They NEVER change from that mindset AND they are dangerous to the GLBT community. Don't trust them.

Still, this is a ridiculous lawsuit. Gabbard tries to please Republicans. And she does. She also, at the same time, disses Democrats every chances she gets. She should be surprised a lot of us don't take too kindly to that.
