"The Senate shall have the sole power to 'try' all impeachments."
The Trump defense is arguing that the House wants the Senate to do its job for it.
The Senate is not a body for appeals or for legal assistance to any President. They are one/half of the Legislature. Their responsibility is to "try" the impeachment of Donald Trump.
Their job is not to defend Donald Trump. Their job is not to lie for Donald Trump. Their job is to "try" the case against Donald Trump.
The White House is ill-informed about the job of the Senate in an impeachment trial.
