Rachel: Mitch said he had votes to pass last night's resolution. Clearly, he didn't

Rachel Maddow MSNBC ✔ @maddow

One point:

Senator McConnell said he had the votes to pass the resolution distributed last night.

Clearly, he didn't — or he wouldn't have had to make last-minute changes to it today.

Just worth keeping in mind in terms of his future assertions about what votes he says he has.

I actually got some people to call Scott and Rubio today who wouldn't have dreamed of doing that in a million years. I provided the phone numbers, told them exactly what to expect the experience to be like, and gave them some script options to read so they wouldn't have to fumble through what they wanted to say. Hand holding works!

I contacted both of my Democratic senators today as well, even though they're both firmly against Trump. It doesn't hurt to remind them.

I'll take 'em where I can get 'em at this stage. Be sure to remind your conservative friends and trollbots on other message boards that the Majority Leader often says one thing but something quite different actually happens. They may prevail at the end of the day with their anti-constitutional ways, but we don't have to let them savor the taste of their pyrrhic victory.
