When Most Everything Means Nothing

I expected more....I really did. I expected a giant spike strip would rise up out of the ground to stop all those thugmobiles headed to Mar-a-Lago. I just knew I’d see police officers holding the exact right key to open the locks on those child cages. I was certain the whole entire country would protest the love affair with Putin, the degradation of the White House.

I’m beginning to feel like a horse that has been stolen and rebranded. My stall doesn’t feel the same, the whole barn is different.

What, I wonder, will it take to repair our systems and institutions, our values after Trump? Will we be changed forever?

We’re told we don’t see what we see, don’t hear what we hear, don’t know what we know. It’s astounding to me that we have innocent children locked in cages while the president roams free committing crimes in broad daylight. There is no justice in Barr’s justice system, no daily press briefings, no functioning State Department.

There’s no tending to....no taking great care....no oversight. Republicans now run a political party where most everything means nothing. Pillage is encouraged, racism is accepted, lying is like breathing. Soldiers are props, statesmen are nonexistent, double crossing is regular. Dictators are heroes, voter suppression is welcomed, truth and science are fake, treachery and lawlessness are celebrated.

I’m sickened to write about it again, but it’s as dangerous as was my childhood. No norms. No examples. Nothing to lean on or step up to. Hate where love should be. Danger instead of security.
Ever-present cruelty. As hard as I fight against it, Trump’s ways dredge up some awful feelings. I’ve taken pride for decades in the fact that the tiniest scrid of hope can keep me going, but this monstrous man in the White House is the worst “president” this country has ever seen. His despicable recklessness and stomach-churning soullessness will be our ruination if we allow it. He’s a trigger for me, but a real threat to many others. WE ABSOLUTELY MUST UNITE AND STOP HIM.

But today is the perfect day to remember how MLK Jr was able to change an America which was far worse than it is today. If nothing else he showed us it can be done by uniting in our struggle. And by doing it non violently.

Unquestionably, sadly but I refuse to be despondent.
We've been given a new set of standards to apply against all the future attacks on freedoms and justice.By simply labeling something Trumpian, we quickly define it , inspire revulsion and hopefully cause the trigger reaction to vanguish it, similar to our reaction to "Nazi'.

You have described perfectly how I am feeling, and I am sure how many others are feeling as well. Triggered. That is exactly what happens every time another outrage is committed or another law/rule is trampled upon. My anger has turned to rage which is now turning into sheer terror. I am beginning to see how another holocaust can happen here, especially if he wins again in 2020.
