Nonsense. It is required by the constitution and she's strategic in scheduling it when she did. hlthe2b Jan 2020 #3
It's required by the Constitution but it doesn't have to be a speech. The Velveteen Ocelot Jan 2020 #7
No. But the decision as to whether to appear or to submit it in writing is that of Trump, not Pelosi hlthe2b Jan 2020 #8
That's true. And he'd never pass up a chance to give a speech The Velveteen Ocelot Jan 2020 #9
Not so. The Speaker has to invite the president to give his speech in the House chamber. shockey80 Jan 2020 #10
Yes so. As constitutionally provided. He CAN elect instead to submit in writing. hlthe2b Jan 2020 #11

Environment we are in.

If impeachment is still going on, I can only imagine what kind of nut job speech he’d give.

If it’s already over, I sure as hell don’t want to hear him “spiking the football.”

There’s no good outcome here.

I hope it's so weird and terrible that at least a few more people wake up and see what kind of monster he really is.

I would tell him to go somewhere else and give his speech of lies. Fuck him.

He is so deranged right now, it is highly unlikely he'd be able to stick to a teleprompter. Nancy knows he's melting down and his poorly disguised dementia symptoms have progressed. She's made it clear she knows what is happening. So, let it happen in front of the American people, live on camera.

Until the early 20th century it was always a written report. But I'm OK with him looking like a cross between Hannibal Lecter and Frankenstein's monster on national TV.

She could theoretically refuse to allow him to use the House Chamber, but he can deliver SOTU anywhere, including the Senate chamber if he so chose.

She can't stop SOTU. But only put up barriers that would surely backfire.
