frightening. We are all in danger. We must get this video and replay it everywhere. Glen Kirschner breaks it down hown everything ends up being under Barr. No wonder Lev is speaking out.

Called for investigation of barr and Ukraine.
Hmmm.

(43,258 posts)Searching for some angle in the legal code or arcane aspect of law to force recusal or ruling on judicial ethics. Maybe additional Articles, this time against Barr, as Trump's trial progresses? Trump doesn't have the power here, he's on trial. Barr has the power.
How about Senator Harris' well-publicized questioning of Barr at Senate confirmation hearings? He couldn't seem to find a straight answer about whether he'd been asked to launch any investigations. But he seems to have researched his ability to stifle any inquiry against Trump's Ukraine playbook. And look how the evidence keeps being classified so no one can see it.

(7,434 posts)Barr added a protective layer to insulate Trump from accountability. Trump knew it and overreached with his Ukraine gambit, estimating that Barr would make him untouchable.
When the Senate acquits, Trump's dream will come true. He WILL be untouchable. He will have no obstacles to dictatorship.
Just follow the legal logic. Deduce what will happen when clear evidence of impeachable offenses is ignored by the Senate GOPers.
Trials and court decisions set precedents. An acquittal will set a number of precedents that will trigger further violations of the Constitution, with no political or judicial recourse. When the Senate rules that there is no obstruction of justice/Congress in spite of overwhelming evidence, then in future deliberations, obstruction of justice, or Congress, will no longer have legal precedent, and will no longer have legal or political teeth. At a minimum, Congress will no longer have the ability to punish a president, even future actions by Trump, with impeachment if the president ignores legally binding subpoenas, Court Orders, or even Congressional overrides of vetoes.
I'm not understanding why virtually NO ONE in the free press is initiating a discussion of this inevitability: when the Senate acquits, the Constitution will be nullified. Who is asking ANY of the Senators or Representatives what will happen to the Constitution WHEN the Senate votes for acquittal. What are the legal ramifications? What are the consequences regarding the functionality of the Constitution?
Why are there no alarm bells sounding?
Is the free press too concerned that PANIC will set in, so they're denying the obvious?

(16,760 posts)Two more steps and he's likely there until his death; this trial and the election. I don't understand the last two questions either. I wonder if everyone is just exhausted and trying to cling to "normalcy" as much as they can, and the media as well? It has been a swift (3 years) and calculated, absolute power grab. No doubt about it. Absolutely disgusting how it was normalized so quickly, particularly in the MSM. Watching most programs, you would have no idea what has, and is transpiring.

(10,053 posts)No, he is a dangerous megalomaniac, and the media needs to do a better job of reporting facts, stopping the both sides do it excuses, and calling out Trumps lies and why theyre lies and dangerous to our form of government. Too many citizens either pay little attention to politics or are woefully ignorant of how government should work and thus do not see the dangers of Trump and his enabling AG and Republican Party.
Anyone who thinks Trump and his Machiavellian family and top Republicans like McConnell are not paying attention to what Putin is doing to Russias constitution and figuring out how to do the same here to preserve both Trumps and Republicans power forever is just ignoring the obvious. And its clear that we need to rely on the media to help preserve our democracy because the current administration is doing everything in their power to destroy it. What we need, and now, is another Deep Throat who will acquire the real transcripts of the Trump telephone conversations hidden on the ultra secret server and release them to someone like Rachel Maddow or David Fahrenhold.
Evolve Dammit
(16,760 posts)The released "transcripts" are not transcripts as a court stenographer would perform. 90% of people don't understand this and the MSM doesn't explain it. It is a rendition, which through the testimony of the Congressional hearings became obvious that those assessing the conversation(s) had a LOT of latitude in what was preserved. The only way to know what was actually said, along with Mob-Boss voice inflections and "Code" speak (remembering Michael Cohen's testimony), is the actual recording. Without that, we have a very scant rendition of what transpired on any of those calls, whether it be Putin or any other calls. And, Drumpf's cell phone is totally unsecured, as well as his staff's phones. They simply don't give a fuck for any laws, ethics, legal opinions or any other "norms." What the hell happened to our government other than a total take-over backed by Putin?

Including the possibility of new laws to address so many of the gun-related issues.
