Trump to top Generals: "You're dopes and babies..."

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/youre-a-bunch-of-dopes-and-babies-inside-trumps-stunning-tirade-against-generals/2020/01/16/d6dbb8a6-387e-11ea-bb7b-265f4554af6d_story.html

. . .

Trump’s first complaint was to repeat what he had vented about to his national security adviser months earlier: South Korea should pay for a $10 billion missile defense system that the United States built for it. The system was designed to shoot down any short- and medium-range ballistic missiles from North Korea to protect South Korea and American troops stationed there. But Trump argued that the South Koreans should pay for it, proposing that the administration pull U.S. troops out of the region or bill the South Koreans for their protection.

“We should charge them rent,” Trump said of South Korea. “We should make them pay for our soldiers. We should make money off of everything.”

Trump proceeded to explain that NATO, too, was worthless. U.S. generals were letting the allied member countries get away with murder, he said, and they owed the United States a lot of money after not living up to their promise of paying their dues.

“They’re in arrears,” Trump said, reverting to the language of real estate. He lifted both his arms at his sides in frustration. Then he scolded top officials for the untold millions of dollars he believed they had let slip through their fingers by allowing allies to avoid their obligations.

“We are owed money you haven’t been collecting!” Trump told them. “You would totally go bankrupt if you had to run your own business.”

. . .

“I want to win,” he said. “We don’t win any wars anymore .?.?. We spend $7 trillion, everybody else got the oil and we’re not winning anymore.”

Trump by now was in one of his rages. He was so angry that he wasn’t taking many breaths. All morning, he had been coarse and cavalier, but the next several things he bellowed went beyond that description. They stunned nearly everyone in the room, and some vowed that they would never repeat them. Indeed, they have not been reported until now.

“I wouldn’t go to war with you people,” Trump told the assembled brass.

Addressing the room, the commander in chief barked, “You’re a bunch of dopes and babies.”

Fri Jan 17, 2020, 12:39 PM

George W. Bush was supposed to be our "first MBA president", because republicans are convinced the private sector can do anything better than the government. I think it's painfully obvious by now that these two republican "businessmen" (Bush and Trump) have been abject failures at the job of leading our country.

I never thought I'd see a republican president worse than George W. Bush, but then Russia and America's morons selected Donald J. Trump, and he blew Bush right out of the water! So the great republican "run the government like a business" experiment has been tried twice, and both times it's ended in disaster. Let's throw that republican canard alongside the heap of other republican notions (trickle down economics, for one) that have failed miserably. Americans should be convinced by now that Democrats handle the economy much better than republicans and their schemes to funnel all the money to the top.

Data show that the U.S. economy does better under Democratic presidents.
https://www.usnews.com/opinion/articles/2016-10-06/why-the-economy-does-better-under-democrats

The Economy Under Democratic vs. Republican Presidents
https://www.jec.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/democrats/2016/6/the-economy-under-democratic-vs-republican-presidents

It has often been suggested that Republicans are better at overseeing the economy than Democrats. However, an analysis of economic performance since World War II under Democratic versus Republican presidents shows that claims that Republicans are better at managing the economy are simply not true. While the reasons are neither fully understood nor completely attributable to policy choices, data show that the economy has performed much better during Democratic administrations. Economic growth, job creation and industrial production have all been stronger.

In fact, a recent paper by economists Alan Blinder and Mark Watson states: “The superiority of economic performance under Democrats rather than Republicans is nearly ubiquitous; it holds almost regardless of how you define success.” Fact-checking groups have investigated similar statements and have found time and time again that they are true. Moreover, past research shows that stock market returns are also higher under Democrats.

. . .apparently referred to Trump as a "fucking moron"

https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-called-his-generals-a-bunch-of-dopes-and-babies-in-a-fit-of-rage-book-claims

In his most incendiary comment, Trump—a man who, remember, managed to get out of military duty in Vietnam due to a supposed bone spur problem—is said to have told the assembled forces: “I wouldn’t go to war with you people... You’re a bunch of dopes and babies.”

The comment reportedly left the room dumbfounded. Tillerson was “visibly seething,” and decided to speak up. The secretary of state said: “No, that’s just wrong... Mr. President, you’re totally wrong. None of that is true.” When the meeting ended soon afterward, Tillerson reportedly stood with a small group of confidantes and said: “He’s a fucking moron.”

He wants to dominate everything. He will use ridicule, intimidation, threats, shouts, lies and half-truths...anything to bludgeon his adversaries into submission.
Actual truth is irrelevant to him. He lives in the realm of Trump Truth, where he decides what is true.
He gathers a group of enablers around him who defend and protect him; all the while implementing his will.

In ultimate terms, it is his enablers who empower him. Without them he is nothing more than a fat, old, self-absorbed blowhard.

Fri Jan 17, 2020, 02:48 PM

A Democrat says this to the military brass. Doesn't matter who, pick Obama or Biden or anyone you want. This story comes out, showcasing the absolute cluelessness of the Democrat on matters military, as well as the Democrat's disdain for the military. EVERY news report about that Democrat and his or her relationship with the military would reference this story, and the narrative of the antipathy if not outright animosity of the military toward said Democrat would be set in stone.

Think about Jane Fonda if you need a real life example.

Now, throw in the fact that neither Trump nor anyone in his family has ever served in the military. What would the media narrative be for a similarly-situated Democrat raging about the military not satisfactorily acting as a collections agent and railing at the officers that they're a bunch of dopes and babies? Compare your imagined narrative to how the media are treating this story about Trump, right now, in real time.
