Senator Alexander,
I read that you took the oath today for the impeachment trial of Donald J Trump, President of the United States. I trust that after more than 4 decades of government service you will honor that oath that you took ("I solemnly swear (or affirm, as the case may be) that in all things appertaining to the trial of the impeachment of (the person on trial), now pending, I will do impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws; So help me God." and will in fact be impartial in your consideration of this matter. You must put your country first instead of your party which seems to be the "Trump" party now. This is your one chance to uphold our democracy and the rule of law.
If you fail to do your duty, then I fear this country will be doomed to authoritarian rule from this point forward. That appears to be the path that Donald Trump and those that support him blindly are directing the country. The constitutional crisis that we are in today is not only that we have an unlawful president with a corrupt administration but that we have a Congress (specifically the Senate) that is failing to hold anyone in this administration accountable for their unlawful actions.
If we survive this authoritarian rule and return to democracy, then history will take a very dim view of those that enabled and supported Donald Trump in his march toward authoritarianism.
Please do your duty sir and follow the oath that you took today.

I revised it slightly for Senator Blackburn...took out the 4 decades of government service part...not that it will do any good with her. She is a true believer of Donald J Trump.

(5,402 posts)as a fellow Tennessean, I have also contacted both senators numerous times. I never fail to be disappointed in Alexander's milquetoast responses, and imagine you will receive more of the same.
Blackburn is as stupid as she is evil, and actually appears to have brokered the deal between the Russians and the NRA...
Lost cause, but hopefully will be wearing an orange jumpsuit before it's all over.

(16,928 posts)I suspect we're gonna' keep a lot of office people hitting "delete" with our responses, but just the same, it is great to be on record for calling them to do their duty.
I will admit that I used "most" of your letter to send one to my own "hide-behind-the-law-when-its-useful - gotta' protect the 1%" senator, Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania. I'll also admit that I did not cite your work as my source! Hope you're not as fussy about that as my freshman English Lit. Prof. was in college!

(14,275 posts)She responded to my letter with her fucking lies: Democrats are trying to nullify the 2016 election and subvert the will of the electoral college; impeachment is invalid because its partisan; the a Democrats have no evidence; the phone call was perfect.
Comrade Blackburn is useless.
