Pelosi: Trump can postpone State of the Union amid impeachment trial

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said President Trump could postpone his Feb. 4 State of the Union address until after his Senate impeachment trial.

“That’s up to the president,” Pelosi, a California Democrat, told reporters Thursday.
Some lawmakers have suggested Trump should reschedule his annual address to a joint session of Congress, which is now poised to take place amid an impeachment trial. The speaker of the House invites the president and traditionally sets the date. Pelosi invited Trump back in December.

The Senate will begin a trial in earnest on Jan. 21. Lawmakers will consider two House-passed articles of impeachment charging Trump with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

Pelosi said Trump could not show up at all and simply deliver the address on paper, which was customary in the early days of the republic.

I might make an exception this year and tune in to the SOTU speech just to hear what kind of whining the dotard does.

Being brilliant again!

She has given him a gracious way out. Depending on what Moscow Mitch is able to do to rig the trial, it might be a good option for The Orange One to take her up on her offer. But if Mitch and Lindsey are able to sweep this whole thing under the rug and make it go away, he will certainly be there on February 4 to crow about total exoneration.

You are braver than I am YMBL, I can't listen to him talk. And you know he will go on for hours. Talking about dishwashers, maybe?

My blood pressure raises, I yell, I rant, I pace - my dog barks if I get crazy - it's just not worth it. if there's anything really important he says, I can always watch a short targeted clip (maybe, depending on the content?) later.

If Trump gives the SOTU as a speech during the impeachment trial, it’s gonna make Captain Queeg look rational.

use the entire "SOTU" platform as a campaign rally. This is a guy who burns to the ground anyone and anything that offends his tiny narcissistic ego.

If they acquit, they will have to face this music. So will Democrats, but they can hold their heads high and know they did the right thing. She is forcing Republicans to think, if that is possible.

And show up after the Senate trial is over - no matter how long it takes - so that he can claim he's been found innocent.

I would question if it's legally proper for him to give a political speech before Congress and the Supreme Court during his trial for impeachment.

Knowing his propensity for uncontrolled bullshit, lies and rage, it's also not very wise on his part.
