None of the Senators taking their oath used a Bible. The Republicans should had been forced to have Bible.

(12,712 posts)Since there is no legal requirement to swear on a bible, (you can swear on another book or an affirmation) I think that also applies to swearing in for Senators. For those who are aware of this, it is a choice, not an obligation.
To me that is good since it puts the emphasis on the person who is being sworn in or to an oath rather than the bible itself. While it is traditional, (and there for might even be suspect to those who place emphasis on bibles) it is optional.
