The average human body temperature is lower than it used to be: study

Humans have gotten cooler since the Civil War — by a little more than half a degree.

According to a recent study, the average man’s body temperature is about 0.59 degrees C cooler today than someone born in the early 19th century. Women, on average, are about 0.32 degrees cooler than their 1800s counterparts.

For both men and women, the average body temperature is a bit lower than the 37 C that’s commonly assumed as normal — more like 36.62 C for men, for example, with women being a tiny bit warmer. Other recent studies have had similar results.

So when I hit 100 I know there is something wrong. I am on day 6 of a nasty bug and when my temp hit 100, I started taking my temp every hour. This morn I am at 97.5, Yahoo! am on the mend.

I wonder if the size of the person has anything to do with it. My mom also is a 97.something person and both of us are on the tiny scale.

To me it seems like the external factors are the most likely cause here as they have changed the most over the past 100-200 years. Sure, fewer diseases, more medicines and the invention of processed foods could also be playing a part here.
