Dude is spilling. Laying the whole thing out. And Rachel is piecing it together perfectly with her questioning.

(19,066 posts)Not only because of what hes saying, but also because I know the GOP still wont do a damned thing about Trump.
Lonestarblue
(10,011 posts)Theyll say that Trump did some stuff that showed poor judgment, but thats not an impeachable offense. Since we have a party and legal system that serves only Donald Trump, we will have to rely on journalists to dig up the evidence to finally convince people that Trump is s corrupt as they come and he needs to be forced to quit, just as Nixon finally did.

(41,986 posts)And I wouldnt blame him.

(17,168 posts)This going public, I think, is Lev's self preservation instinct kicking in.

(17,168 posts)To MSNBC live. Engrossing, mind-blowing, terrifying.

(171,070 posts)for that sentiment, my dear. I hope we all are done with him, the sooner the better. What a POS, always has been.
So, I suppose the rethugs will do the right thing and stand by their man?!
canetoad
(17,168 posts)I can't decide whether they were guided by the Speaker, or she took an advantageous set of circumstances and let them play out.
Either way, this is on the boil and will make the repugs look even more crooked and irrational if they don't take it seriously.
babylonsister
(171,070 posts)Can't wait to see how they'll react.
OT, but is this true? Looks like a horrid site.

(17,168 posts)I've come across a few old ones, where the earth above has collapsed.
They have an entrance tunnel of maybe a metre or so long, then at an angle to the tunnel, the actual living space which is about a metre square for a grown wombat. Wombats are quite big; image something almost labrador-sized but with short legs.
A wombat hole would be a great shelter, I doubt if the wombat actually invites other critters in, but sheer terror would likely help them get along for the crisis.
Wombats are generally bulky and slow but I've seen them run like the wind when scared. They are peaceable vegetarians whose only defense mechanism is to use their bulk to crush interlopers against the roof of their burrows.
babylonsister
(171,070 posts)They can get huge so their homes must be huge. Thanks for that background.

(11,885 posts)And what really happened to Epstein. Very likely why he did this interview. He knows he'll be in putin and trumps discussion very soon, and knows what they might do to him. Watch how quickly trump falsely accuses him , and threatens him , and uses Barr to go after him too.
Hes going to go through some things. The new version.

Amaryllis
(9,524 posts)and in that respect, it's a great service to bring those along so they understand what a big deal this is and will be more inclined to get behind impeachment. There are many who tune into RAchel irregularly.
Johnny2X2X
(19,066 posts)Like she has to explain everything to everyone. Air the interview and then do all of this after.
Upthevibe
(8,052 posts)condescending. I'm a college graduate and am a professional. This can be so convoluted. If she were to do all of this afterwards, she'd have to incorporate a whole new process (editing) .It makes no sense to me that she would do it any other way.
Upthevibe
(8,052 posts)It's not like she was interviewing him then leaves him and goes back to him then leaves him, etc. (and I, of course, know that isn't what you mean). I actually need her to explain and put everything into context as we go along.
Johnny2X2X
(19,066 posts)This broadcast is going to be aired over and over. Its mostly Rachel Maddow explaining things. People are going to take that as her spinning things.
This is a massive story, just present the interview.

(111,270 posts)Remember, he's a party loyalist, a real company man, and he's got a book to flog. That's what this is about, not ratting out his former boss or current cronies.
If he had anything legitimate to say, he'd already have said it to the House committees. He didn't, so the best we can expect from him is grandstanding and personal gain.

I even got the feeling this is his purpose for spilling so much, to do this discrediting of Hyde. Republicans are going to try to latch onto this. Imho.

(36 posts)The case is so much stronger with this. I don't understand why they did hold the impeachment articles and new hearing to added evidence.
bucolic_frolic
(43,177 posts)So the House didn't know what Parnas woud say, or if he would even talk, or even if he had anything to say. She indicated the decision was made very recently by Mr. Parnas for his own safety, that the information is better in public.
A lot of the interview needs to be corroborated with other witnesses. He was very certain about the relationships involved and heard parts of conversations on speakerphones, but some is not direct first hand evidence.
catbyte
(34,402 posts)hell to flip the Senate and keep the House. And, of course, take back the White House.
Eyeball_Kid
(7,432 posts)nothing will matter after that. Trump will fix the election or cancel it, depending on what works best for him. After acquittal, he'll know that he can't be removed for any crime he commits, no matter how many times he's impeached. It also means he can permanently withhold witnesses and documents from Congress, he can ignore Court Orders, he can make up his own laws, and he can completely ignore the Legislative and Judicial Branches. He will be able to exact revenge on anyone he wishes with no repercussions. He can murder and steal. No consequences. He is the head of the Church of Trump, he is infallible, and he will destroy anyone who challenges him.
The coming scheduled election might or might not come to pass. Do not expect it. The best opportunity to stop the anarchy is to extend the trial for as long as possible and present as much evidence as possible, until the public is decidedly certain that he's got to go, and THEY threaten the GOP to vote for removal or face massive civil unrest. But... sorry, waiting for the next election, IMO, will be one wait too late.
catbyte
(34,402 posts)convict and mcconnell isn't going to allow witnesses or if he has to fake it, he won't allow many. Our only hope is that the military threatens that thing currently infesting the White House because I don't believe the military would obey orders to fire on us, which is what they would have to do if that thing cancels the elections.
material_highlighter
(40 posts)agree with all your points. the USA will official become an authoritarian state should Mr. Trump not be removed from office. Full stop.
the crimes are too glaring, the evidence overwhelming. Yale historian Timothy Snyder was one of the few people to call Mr. Trump out for what he was in 2016/7. Mr. Snyder's two books On Tyranny and The Road to Unfreedom are well worth reading.
Masha Gessen wrote an elegant synopsis early last year as to the name of what's going on here:

(43,177 posts)and belief Mr. Hyde was basically joking in texts about the ambassador (shall we call it international fantasy swatting?), someone in Washington in presumably the State Department, got wind of it and tipped off the ambassador which led to her abrupt departure. Is that basically the story thus far?
So it just seems there is more to this than texts bandied about over the course of a week. Something was afoot, and Pompeo/Trump are all trying to cover something up.
