I had no idea that Mitt Romney chose the father from "Big Fish" as his running mate.....

Did Paul Ryan lie about climbing 40 mountains too? Scepticism grows after Romney's running mate admitted shaving an hour off his marathon timeVice-presidential candidate claims he has scaled 'close to 40' of Colorado's 'fourteeners' range of 54 peaks, each of which is more than 14,000ft tall
By Graham Smith

Just days after Paul Ryan was forced into a humiliating U-turn after falsely claiming that he once ran a marathon in under three hours, questions are now being asked about the vice-presidential candidate's claim to be a prolific mountain climber.
Mitt Romney's running mate told his hometown newspaper that he had scaled 'close to 40' of Colorado's 54 'fourteeners' mountains, each of which is at least 14,000ft tall.

Although Mr Ryan made this claim three years ago, it is now under scrutiny after he admitted on Saturday that he hasn't run a marathon in under three hours, as he had boasted last month on a radio show broadcast across the U.S.

Pretty soon, we'll be hearing that Paul Ryan shot an amazing 11 holes-in-one to achieve an unprecedented 38-under-par game on a regulation 18-hole golf course - on his first try at golf.

Probably Tim Burton's best effort ever.

Just the fact that apparently we have a tall-tale teller as a Vice Presidential nominee is, well, funny.

9. Sorry, I know you're not. Albert Finney's sense of that character touches

some deep, very real chords. The way that he and his son come to terms with one another says a lot about inter-generational differences.

In theory, I guess Paul Ryan is supposed to be capable of something like that, but I doubt it.

10. You're right. The Finney character uses his tall tales to try to reach out to his son.

Whereas Paul Ryan just comes off as a self-aggrandizing douchebag.....

11. Finney's tales were about the traits of those whom he met in his life, traits he ascribed

to them because they treasured one another. They were their stories about themselves. Ryan's tall tales are about himself and told to "make" us value him. There's an inflated sense of self and others that is invalid and then there's a heightened sense of one's self and others that IS valid, because of what you authentically share.

That's what they boy found out about his father, because his father was in fact an extraordinary and free human being, "a big fish".

6. It really is easier to just not lie

Then you don't have to try to remember what you said so you repeat it properly the next time. I know it sounds naive of me to think our politicians will ever learn this lesson.

When in fact many of them have some very distinguished accomplishments to be proud of there is so little reason to lie. If you feel you have to lie about your marathon time there is an underlying question of character. You can be human and not have finished with a record time - unless you are Romney. I'm still pretty sure he's a robot.

Full disclosure. I've only run one 5k marathon and most certainly did not set any records.
