(1,713 posts)really. You don't have to vote lockstep every single damn time. It passed. Why make a list to send out to give them grief. Not all districts are safe

(11,345 posts)They likely knew it was going to pass and took the safe vote. No harm no foul imo on this.

(29,322 posts)This board including myself was upset when Gabbard voted present even though impeachment passed.
I didn't know who any of those people are but now I know who they are.

(42,758 posts)Cunningham was elected by a very narrow margin in a South Carolina district that had not elected a Democrat since 1981.
Romney won this district by 18 points. Trump won it by 13. Cook rates it as a Republican +10.
If you think he's a problem, imagine what his Republican successor would be like.

(18,309 posts)From 2003 to 2013, the 11th district was located entirely in Brooklyn and had a majority African-American population. Most of the territory located within the old 11th district is now located in New York's 9th congressional district. Prior to 2013, most of the territory currently located in the 11th district had been located in New York's 13th congressional district. The 11th district was the subject of The Colbert Report's Better Know a District segment on December 15, 2005 and September 4, 2012.

Congressman Max Rose defeated the incumbent Republican Dan Donovan in 2018. Donovan is the former DA who brought the Pantaleo - Garner case before the SI grand jury. "After the jury returned no indictment, Donovan's office strenuously opposed releasing the trial proceedings, citing New York confidentiality laws, despite being pressured by activists and lawmakers to release them."

(8,733 posts)I'm tired of people trying to rationalize their shitty votes.
Tired of the mindset that Democrats have to act like Republicans to win red districts.
It's not about having to act like a Democrat, it's just doing the hard work required to sell why your position should be their position and being intellectually honest with people.
It's about taking care in how you frame your responses.
You can still believe in everything AOC believes but you have to carry that message to your constituents in a way that makes sense to them.
It can be done, it just requires more effort that playing sycophant to a block if voters that are very unlikely to vote for you anyway.

(67,782 posts)Brindisi - upstate NY, Utica - freshman - pass
Cunningham - SC - votes against Democrats almost every time - not getting a pass
Horn - Oklahoma City - freshman - pass
Luria - Virginia - freshman - pass
Gottheimer - northern NJ - not getting a pass
Murphy - panhandle of Florida - pass
McAdams - Salt Lake City Utah - freshman - meh?
Rose - Staten Island NY, - freshman, second Democrat since 1981, pass
Those are my assessments. YMMV.

(42,758 posts)Because you're dreaming if you think a different Democrat could win in that District.

(42,758 posts)The challengers won't win (or if they did, they'd be crushed in the general) and the money wasted in a primary would be better spent defeating Republicans in general elections.

(42,758 posts)Take a moment and imagine what the situation would be if the Republicans still controlled the House. Imagine what it will be like if in 2020 Trump is reelected and has Republican majorities in the house and senate.
If that doesn't scare the shit out of you, you need to take another moment and think some more.
