Whats striking is how many people are willing to accept this uncritically, Carlson added. Just the other day, you remember, our intel agencies were considered politically tainted and suspect. Certainly on this show they are, were, and will be for quite some time.
He went on to accuse the intel community of pretending that President Donald Trump was a Russian spy before pointing out that it was faulty intelligence on nonexistent weapons of mass destruction that led the United States into the Iraq War.
People pushing conflict with Iran are the same people who did that, the conservative host declared. It seems like about 20 minutes ago we were denouncing these very people as the deep state and pledging to never trust them again without verification. But now, for some reason, we do seem to trust them implicitly and completely.

(21,600 posts)us into Iraq in 2003. The intel was not bad and the intel agencies did not mislead us. There was ample doubt about WMD claims and the intel agencies made that known - and were attacked by war hawks for doing so.
The Bush regime twisted and sometimes fabricated "intel" to promote war against Iraq because Neocons wanted that war befote W was inaugurated, long before 9/11. They sold the war as defense against terrorism to a frightened nation after 9/11, even though Iraq had no connection to Al Qaida at that time. It was the war itself that created a connection.
"Bad intel" is the escape hatch, the denial of responsibility used by Republicans in general and neocons specifically in order to distance themselves from the fiasco the illegal invasion of Iraq turned into.
