AxiosThe Trump administration tried, unsuccessfully, to persuade top Iraqi officials to kill a parliamentary effort to force the U.S. military out of Iraq, according to two U.S. officials and an Iraqi government official familiar with the situation.
Why it matters: The Iraqi parliament passed a resolution today calling on the Iraqi government to expel U.S. troops from Iraq, after the U.S killed Iranian Gen. Qasem Soleimani and a leader of an Iraqi militia with a drone strike near Baghdad airport.
This resolution could ultimately lead to the U.S. military being forced out of Iraq. But the outcome remains uncertain, and the prime minister who needs to sign it recently resigned.
"I think it would be inconvenient for us, but it would be catastrophic for Iraq," said a U.S. official familiar with the Trump administration's effort to block the vote. "It's our concern that Iraq would take a short-term decision that would have catastrophic long-term implications for the country and its security."

(6,044 posts)move the US out of Iraq and turn that 750 million dollar American embassy into the Russian embassy, Trump will do everything he can to oblige.
Russia moved right into our military base in Syria which Trump precipitously abandoned and essentially handed to Putin over the bodies of Kurdish allies.
Putin is a chess player; Trump plays golf. The chess player is winning.
Of course Eisenhower played golf-but he was also a successful wartime military general-not a smoke and mirrors reality show host.

(63,922 posts)Putin and Erdogan got the US out of Kurdish safe zone and Russia pulled right into our base, sending our troops without no warning to leave their base. Putin is spreading his tentacles and making the US so weak and disorganized. One DU poster had posted why was Lavrov in the WH about maybe 2 to 3 weeks ago and now this has happened.
Putin has his puppet and he isn't even using military force on us, the enemy is within and we know who is doing Putin's bidding.

Wonder who else made a short-term decision.

The entirety of the republican party and its lunatic "base" have absolutely NO capacity to even SEE, much less take responsibility for their insane impetuousness.
