https://www.cnbc.com/2020/01/06/trump-threatens-to-slap-sanctions-on-iraq-like-theyve-never-seen-before.htmlIf they do ask us to leave, if we dont do it in a very friendly basis, we will charge them sanctions like theyve never seen before ever. Itll make Iranian sanctions look somewhat tame.
We have a very extraordinarily expensive air base thats there. It cost billions of dollars to build. Long before my time. Were not leaving unless they pay us back for it, Trump said.
The president added that If theres any hostility, that they do anything we think is inappropriate, we are going to put sanctions on Iraq, very big sanctions on Iraq.

(6,930 posts)is talking about sanctions? I cannot keep up with this looniness.

(11,744 posts)The war crime Trump is proposing is a threat against Iran if they retaliate for him murdering their general. That is different than the sanctions which is Trump's tantrum against the Iraqi government wanting to expel US troops over the provocation of Iran.
One of the results of the US destabilizing Iraq has been a much closer relationship between Iraq and Iran, who were mortal enemies and fought a long bloody war during the 1980's. Trump being an idiot is pushing the two rivals closer together and joining forces against the erratic actions of the US.
So Trump wants to commit war crimes against Iran, and wants to destroy Iraq's economy and occupy the country in retaliation for trying to assert its sovereignty.
He isn't loony. He is stupid and dangerous.

(11,744 posts)I apologize if my tone came across as hostile.
Just wanting to get the information out there and obviously, my opinion about the dangers of having a complete idiot in charge of such a potentially destructive force as the US military and economic weapons.

And now he's going to put an occupation force there in that terrorist cesspool he's created. What an opportunity. Join the military and go guard Shiites that hate your guts. How appealing. Sounds like a good life for "patriotic" magats.
His foreign policy is a fucking disaster, from Kim, to treatment of our allies, to the Kurds he murdered, and now this shit?

(4,316 posts)and no that doesn't match. When I was in grade school, we would have substitutes, and the trouble-making kids would start to test the teacher, by making stuff up and making a huge fool out of them. In a comic scene, you could take this to an extreme, where the teacher has no control, and just starts yelling louder and louder and the class just ignores them.
Happens to parents too when they don't have a clue how to calmly have authority and are totally incompetent to do that.

If they formally demand that our troops leave, then they have to leave. Or Donald declares he is ruler of Iraq and that it is now an American territory.

Trumps coalition for military action in the Middle East will consist of one squad of fighters from the Philippines and some cash from SA, as their army couldn't fight its way out of a paper bag.

(11,885 posts)And when they see their energy costs , and goods skyrocket upward a lot more every time he speaks they'll take it out on trump and the republicans for allowing this to happen. Its all backfiring on trump and the gop now. When this escalates with oil tankers becoming targets it'll jump up much more hurting our economy, just what putin wants trump to do for him. putin wants to control oil , and other resources , so he can manipulate who gets it , and he'll shake those countries down for more money when he gets more control. trump has claimed in Iraq we should have taken all their oil, and will try to do this now in Iran , with putin backing it.
