US military announced its suspending anti-ISIS operations in Iraq. Iraq parliament requests govt to kick out US forces. Massive protests in Iran. North Korea says it will show off new military technology soon. All have knock-on effects. More danger. More instability.

(16,254 posts)I suppose he is so accustomed to dangerous places, but with this mess, no one is safe.

(804 posts)I certainly hope he has sufficient security. However, as you indicated, it seems no American, even a journalist, is safe there right now.

(47,512 posts)What amazes me is that he maintains a youthful optimistic demeanor. So many foreign correspondents look harried and stressed out, but the stress never shows on Engel's face. Plus he has developed some really solid relationships with people in some of these hot spots, often speaking their language with seeming ease.
Do you remember when he was kidnapped in Syria? He's lucky to be alive. I loved to see a movie based on his life.

(63,221 posts)It is Australian Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove. Former and highly decorated officer in the Australian Army and one of Australia's most respected and popular military leaders.
That would explain his contempt for a draft-dodging coward like Donald Trump who couldn't even honor the fallen heroes because the rain would have messed up his grotesque hairdo.

(34,136 posts)Yes, a real military man would have contempt for a draft dodger chicken hawk like Trump.

(63,221 posts)If Trump stays in office, there will be no stopping it. He will do everything in his power to create the biggest war the world has ever seen. If he is going down, everyone else is going down with him.

(9,426 posts)that they know better how to run other countries, than the countries themselves? Look at the mess we have here. Corruption, rich people paying little or no taxes, while working class people pay more than them. Politicians padding their bank accounts, while screwing over citizens who want healthcare and decent schools, roads etc. I would venture to say that right now the US is the most corrupt country on earth. We have the biggest IDIOT in the WH, who knows nothing about the job he is supposed to be doing. Spends most of his time golfing, tweeting and insulting people. He is defended by the fools in the gop, too scared to speak out because they took money from Russia. Lindsey Graham went from stating "If Donald Trump is elected, it will be the end of the gop, and we will deserve it" to making a total arse of himself, golfing with tRump and defending his every stupid move. Who would have thought that a total moron like tRump would be capable of completely destroying this country?

(21,675 posts)There was a mysterious letter (I can't seem to get a screenshot of it) from Gen. Richard Seeley (USMC) to the Iraqui Minister of Defense, dated TODAY, that was deleted. Has Trump caved?
