(35,309 posts)Yemen was a problem. That hasn't changed. And Iran's in the thick of it--we just like to defend Iran and lambast SA.
There are still outstanding land claims between Iran and Qatar over some islands. There's sabre rattling, and while SA and Qatar had their spats, there was no way the US was going to turn its back on either or they'd dump the US. Because Iran.
Hezbollah still wants to destroy Israel and make sure that Lebanon, Sunnis/Druse/Christians notwithstanding, is a solid Iranian ally. Israel's mixed in, but that Jew hatred, heavily sponsored by Iran, just won't die.
Turkey has its genocide programs and wannabe dictator/emperor. Whose now taking the Libya disaster and trying to turn it to his favor. Yeah. Libya. Fixed.
Syria was a disaster. Encouraged and abandoned and then ISISed. With a slo-mo retake of territory because Russians and Turks. There was no game plan I know of for when the US/Kurds ran up against problems.
Iraq was a mess from the git-go. The Shi'ites continued their suppression of Kurds and Sunnis except to the extent it helped them. And by Shi'ites I mean "Iran."
So as Turkey repositions itself for neo-Ottoman aspirations, and the Persians glorify their old Empire and want to strengthen the remains of that empire (because that's what Iran is, the rump of a much larger empire with a Persian-first approach to a bunch of ethnicities lumped together by conquest and never actually assimilated), and Russia's playing games to win influence and kill enemies by now favoring Turkey, now Iran, it was "almost fixed." In the narrow sense that the problem with only limited refinement of uranium was allowed and nuclear research was officially halted.
