As you suggest, it didn't hurt with some voters.
Plus he was milking his 9/11 megaphone moment as much as he could.
But the Iraq War did bother many others in both parties who thought it was sheer idiocy.

Whatever... Trump is desperate for a gimmick to win.

Unfortunately many Americans wanted us to retaliate. So much so that they ignored the facts about who had attacked us. Saddam Hussein was the Evil Villain of Choice. The rest is history.

It’s not the same. Trump’s attack isn’t based on anything more than his determination to save his own skin. As bad as Suleimani is, he was not known by the average American going about their business. He was no big looming evil person attacking us in our soil.
