Every time a young person shouted abuse at us, I offered them a form, along with directions to the nearest enlistment office. Nobody ever took a form, but everybody suddenly had to be somewhere else, IMMEDIATELY.

10. When I was in high school and college I protested Vietnam.

We used to take the lottery numbers with us so the ones who told us we were not true Americans could see when they or their kids would be called in the next 12 months. Not the same thing, but similar. My brother was serving in Vietnam during that time as well. It was a tough period that I could see coming back with the latest mess in the middle east.

Of course, the STUPIDEST invective ever tossed my way was "If you hate this war so much, why don't YOU enlist, and go fight in it!!" Someone actually said that. And, yes, these chicken hawks LOVED to call us cowards. (There were a number of veterans, of all ages, in our group.)

So, I informed them of my military status, and let them know I wasn't asking them to do anything that I, myself, hadn't already been prepared to do. That is when I got the most cowardly reactions.

(nephew) is a MAGAt and enlisted in the marines before HS graduation b/c of Trump and "reclaiming America."

For many, it is a good job with a good chance of employment getting out. They do it for service to the country and for what it gives back.

Nothing wrong with that.

But magat's are a different breed. They eschew service, and just want to kill. Even back in vietnam, george carlin joked that the best way out of the military draft was to go in telling them "I WANT to kill. I want to see blood, and taste guts in my teeth. I WANT TO KILL".

Now, they will make you an officer.
