Who benefits from a U.S./Iran War?

I see Putin pulling the strings on this situation again. I could even see him being behind the Baghdad embassy attack.

tRump has been told it will get him out of impeachment, and re-elected.

If escalation continues, what other counties will have our back now that tRump has pissed everybody else off? If the situation were reversed, they know tRump would not stand up for them. You just have to hope they remember our country is more than tRump.

Maybe Putin sees this as an opportunity to get his tentacles into Iran's oil? And push further into the U.S., continuing to isolate us from the rest of the world?

There’s no question that they would prefer higher oil prices... but their oil infrastructure is near the top o of Iran’s target list.

He has openly mused about setting the stage for war "like Bush did" as the easiest route to a second term.

And of course military contractor profits. Cost plus.

Cheeto's obsessed with his predecessor.

And now that you mention it, I believe Faux News is now openly calling for the end of impeachment/removal proceedings " 'cause we're at war!"

That's exactly why the fat bastard did this.

And the Republican Senate was never going to convict, with or without war with Iran.

It’s about Trump getting re-elected – it worked for GWB.

Don't discount this as something Trump is doing a) for himself to wag the dog, b) for Putin to weaken the US, AND c) for Iran (specifically because Putin wants Iran's regime to remain firmly in power).

There's a lot of grossly under-reported (in favor of impeachment/Trump over-coverage) unrest in Iran lately. The timing of this is pretty good to undercut the next round of unrest by ginning up an external threat (in general, the past century shows us that when there is a corrupt regime and an outside threat at the same time, the Iranian population galvanizes against the outside threat, and the current Iranian regime absolutely knows this, as does Putin).

Possibly Israel if "successful"--whatever that means.

Putin is more or less allied with Iran now. I'm not sure why he would want to endanger his ally but I suppose he might see it as an opportunity to manipulate his idiot into getting the U.S. into a lot of trouble in the ME that would further strain relations between the U.S. and its allies and possibly lead to U.S. troop withdrawals from the ME.

Dumpy is not a long-term strategist but I have to wonder if there could be some connection to increased troop deployments to the ME including 3000 troops to SA in the past few months since the apparent Iranian attack on Saudi oil infrastructure and 14,000 troops to the ME since May.

I think a reasonable person might ask is this flare up with Iran is a piece of red meat to appease Bolton to keep him from testifying against Trump. Another quid pro quo. The timing is unbelievable. Just when the court removes any reason for him to NOT testify. Bingo trouble in Iran wag the dog trouble.

in crime for Putin? Both VP Pence and Pompeo openly claim fulfilling biblical prophesy as motivation in foreign policy. This discussion of Trump's likely, or feared, foreign policy is from The Guardian a year ago:

‘Brought to Jesus’: the evangelical grip on the Trump administration

In his speech at the American University in Cairo, Pompeo said that in his state department office: “I keep a Bible open on my desk to remind me of God and his word, and the truth.”

The secretary of state’s primary message in Cairo was that the US was ready once more to embrace conservative Middle Eastern regimes, no matter how repressive, if they made common cause against Iran.

His second message was religious. In his visit to Egypt, he came across as much as a preacher as a diplomat. He talked about “America’s innate goodness” and marveled at a newly built cathedral as “a stunning testament to the Lord’s hand”. ...

“We will continue to fight these battles,” the then congressman said at the Summit church in Wichita. “It is a never-ending struggle … until the rapture. Be part of it. Be in the fight.” ...

Evangelicals, Chesnut said, “now see the United States locked into a holy war against the forces of evil who they see as embodied by Iran”.

In a speech at the end of a regional tour on Thursday, Pompeo reprised the theme, describing Iran as a “cancerous influence”.

This zeal for a defining struggle has thus far found common cause with more secular hawks such as the national security adviser, John Bolton, and Trump’s own drive to eliminate the legacy of Barack Obama, whose signature foreign policy achievement was the 2015 nuclear deal with Tehran, which Trump abrogated last May.

The Christian zionist right Pompeo belongs to believes the apocalypse is coming and a precondition is the gathering of Jews in the Holy Land, evil Iran (and previously? Russia) lead by Satan in opposition, etc, etc. Trump MUST have the support of the evangelical right.
