General thoughts about the mythical "Crumbling Party"

The GOP is crumbling. Witness the retirement of GOP incumbents. Witness party stalwarts who are now either Independents or non-practicing Republicans. It is being said that the old time party is so damaged, so traumatized, that it can never come back as it once was.

Or is it?

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party has grown even as there is a back-and-forth between progressives, middle of the road, and conservatives. How many members of our party are former Republicans? We even have a few running for President under our flag. Sure, we have a big tent, but how long will that tent be needed or wanted?

What happens when one or the other party just implodes? Common thinking holds that the GOP will implode, or is, indeed, imploding now. If it does, what will be left is a more pure party of Trumpers. No ideology. No moral standards. Not even a singular favored societal standard. Just a sociopathic standard of hatred and cruelty. Given the ethnic shift in our population, this diseased carcass of the GOP will simply rot and wither.

Or will it?

While it isn't much discussed, it is quite possible the Democratic Party could fracture. There is pressure on it from both left and right. Add to that the influx of displaced Republicans and the fissures become clear. We can talk "big tent" but I am really not confident such a tent can stand.

Again, these are general thoughts, not predictions or wishes.

Or a realignment of voters into two major Parties?

Racism cannot be enough of a foundation for a major Party. So could we have a fiscally progressive versus a fiscally conservative split?

There is video out there of a government official showing up in some community, (not sure what his original purpose was, but it was fairly recent, as the locals were yelling (amongst other things) about the fireworks that went on anyway in Sydney) and getting all but assaulted. Having to split the scene (in his BMW no less) as the locals continue to spew invective (deserved or not).

This is in our very near future I think. There are many politicians who see this too, it’s the proverbial writing on the wall, and they are getting while the getting is good. Before “we the people” remember that tarring and feathering was a good idea, and we’ve got some payback to take.

I say this thinking about two things. One is that when we find out exactly how much money exactly who in our government has taken, and for how long, we are going to be hella pissed. Or at least we should be. There will be a segment of the population that is of the opinion that justice will mean taking matters into their own hands, because the rich do take care of their own. Two is what will people do if democrats get the blue wave and even a supermajority, and then nothing changes? Do you believe we are where we are today because all the people who voted for trump are racist assholes? Or maybe a significant portion had been left out for so long that they felt that was the best answer they had at the time? What happens when their patience runs thin with another 4 years of Donnie and his trade wars and tax cuts, or they feel they are being persecuted by their government now in retaliation with the democratic majority/president, and start quoting all that “blood of a few patriots” bullshit.

We are headed for a sea change, IMHO.
