How Long Can Nancy Pelosi Hold Back These Articles of Impeachment? Longer Than You Think

"SNIP......

After what Republicans like to characterize as a rush to impeachment, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is now getting grief from the GOP for slowing down the process. It’s driving President Trump and his allies a bit batty trying to figure out what she’s up to by holding back the articles of impeachment.

......

Democrats would like the Senate to pass the USMCA trade agreement, and maybe even vote on a House-passed prescription cost containment bill before a Senate trial gets underway. Holding onto the articles is the only leverage Pelosi has on McConnell, who says he won’t take up USMCA until after any impeachment trial.

“This is working beautifully for her, and for the country,” says Norm Ornstein, a political scientist and resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute. “In the weeks since the House voted for Impeachment, there have been more damning emails, and there’s no reason to believe we have seen the end of it.”

Delaying the trial allows more evidence of wrongdoing by the president and his allies to surface and potentially sway public opinion and perhaps even some Senate Republicans.

She will eventually get the four GOP votes necessary to approve the calling of witnesses. It all depends on the public, and 70% of them ALREADY want witnesses. It will only get worse.

She makes an offer McConnell won't agree to. I45 wants trial done, so Pelosi can point to McConnell as the holdup. Trump likes simple solutions so he may lean on the Senate majority leader. And we shall laugh and laugh when the turtle shell breaks.

Pelosi invited trump to give the speech in early January. I can see him going off the rails about impeachment and the Dems.

I expect it to exceed an hour in length, with IMPOTUS raging about hoax investigations, do-nothing Democrats, sham impeachment and how he really hasn't been impeached, the stock market, the Wall, hoax investigations, Deep State, hoax investigations, perfect telephone calls, Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, hoax investigations, etc. For the Congress, it will like being trapped in a Trump rally. For those of you at home, make sure you have two bags of popcorn.

saying he was not going to uphold his oath of office but rather he was going to act as one of Trump's defense attorneys.
That alone gave Pelosi all the reason she needed to withhold submitting the impeachment to the Senate for trial right away.

... But the text of the Articles - as well as a 600 page book detailing the evidence and accusations - are already available to the public, senators included.

It seems to me that, while waiting for the formality of a House presentation, the entire Senate can read up and prepare every argument for the actual trial.

Right now, McConnell seems to think it benefits Republicans to let Pelosi keep this whole thing in limbo.

The instant he decides otherwise, that limbo ends.
