The only downside to Bill Clinton's speech last night is that it raises the bar on President Obama's speech hugely. I have no doubt that his speech will be miles better than rMoney's acceptance speech, and it doesn't have to be as flat out brilliant as Clinton's but it does have to be a very good one.
I think he can do it. It'll be different than Clinton's for sure; he's got an entirely different style but it needs to be passionate and he needs to connect with people not only in the hall, but those watching.

(85,999 posts). . . the pressure's off to include every awesome statement that's out there to deliver. He can settle down now and put forward a clear, uncluttered vision which isn't obscured by focusing entirely on Romney/Ryan. This is as about a good set-up as ANYONE has ever had, so, I'd expect something memorable and profound (and cool) from this remarkable man.

(21,642 posts)He's a good speaker and not afraid to let other people shine. I expect he'll be on fire tonight, since the convention has been going extremely well and hitting all the right notes.

(1,828 posts)No matter how well he does, the pundits will declare he's no Bill and no Michelle. Because that's what they do. They manage to turn positives into negatives in the blink if an eye.
Plus they'll be busy implying the speech was moved indoors because no one likes Obama anymore.
Thank God for cspan. That channel has saved my sanity this week. And allowed me to bask in the joy of our speeches without all that negativity!

(129,197 posts)there is some crises, some event, some issue that causes hand-wringing or other void moments when the RW lunatics start babbling nonsense - people here and in the media, keep saying "He's gotta deliver a great speech". "He has to say blah", "He has to do this..." "He needs to do that..."
I'M FUCKING SICK OF IT.
Why the hell, AFTER FOUR FUCKING YEARS, can't people just ACCEPT that he is an ORATOR?

(114,904 posts)your outrage is PATHETIC, honey.

(129,197 posts)because he has given seminal speeches OVER AND OVER and OVER and people fawn and high-five and ooo and ahhhhh and then promptly lapse into amnesia until the next time and act as if he will never give such a speech again.
All it does is play into the RW meme. It's never enough and it never ends.
He IS an orator.

(25,415 posts)He has, at times, given great ones. Just like yesterday and the non vetting and worrying about Clinton's speech, I am not worried about President Obama's either. The man knows how to work a crowd and get them passionately involved. It is what attracted me to him as a candidate in the primaries 4 years ago. I think both he and Biden will have very good speeches. Also, Clinton's speech was different. It was about the economy and spelling out the truth of the Repub's lies. Obama's needs to be about the vision for the next 4 years.

(129,197 posts)And the irony is with the "worriers", is that every single time, after he gives that "great speech", then they start complaining about "Well he needs to do more than 'give a good speech'. He has to do blah... And he has to... blah".
It's never-ending.
