Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsTrump is attempting to brand "Crazy" Nancy the same way he did with "Crooked" Hillary.
But he had a much longer time frame to work with in regards to Hillary. It takes time for a "brand" to take hold. It is not likely to work with Nancy Pelosi.
He's a sleazy name-caller and that has appealed to his base. If Nancy Pelosi is "crazy", it is crazy like a fox. She has his number and his game isn't working with her.
He has become too predictable. He has no new plays in his game. All he can do is simmer in the knowledge that he is a loser. He has been impeached. By a woman.

(115,732 posts)Yes, the true-believer cult members will accept anything he says, but nobody else - even people who don't like her - will believe for a minute that she's crazy. She never raises her voice, never calls names, never acts angry. There's nothing even slightly crazy about her demeanor, ever. If you're going to try to attach a negative nickname to someone, it won't stick if it's the direct opposite of what the person is really like.

(59,504 posts)Although Trump himself was far more corrupt than anyone who ever ran for President, he was able to elaborate on existing Clinton memes. There were memes that existed for decades that the Clintons - even when they didn't break laws - went to the very edge. As we all know, some of this was completely made up - and most of it was using the worst possible explanation (for the Clintons). Others - like the cattle trades, McAuliffe's 1996 fundraising were things a reasonable person could question.
By the time that Trump started saying "corrupt Hillary", he was standing on at least two decades of accusations.
Nancy Pelosi has long been a right wing target as a liberal (even radical liberal) from San Francisco. Had Trump characterized her as not representing the "real America", which somehow does not include either the east coast (the only part of the country the forefathers would recognize) or the west coast.
The facts show that she is a very capable Speaker. When she brings something to a vote - she knows what the result will be - and that is what the result is. If you think all speakers do this, look at Ryan and Boehner. Her precise, focused successful leadership of her caucus could not happen if she were impulsive or unhinged.
Not to mention, for anyone not committed to one side or the other, given the images of Pelosi and Trump -- it is clear which one is more easily seen as crazy ... and it is not Pelosi. I think that means the targeting will fail completely. It does not matter if his base repeats it, no one else will agree.

(8,748 posts)I grew up with a dad that was, still is, a fanatical Wrestling fan and believed, believes it is all 100 percent reality. To no surprise he believes Fox and Rusty Limp-balls is 100 percent reality. I feel certain "The Base" are exactly like my dad. He is a good man, God fearing, but extremely gullible to this shit and defends tRump while surviving on less than $900 per month SS and deeply depends on Medicare. He will not listen to a word. Trump has deep ties to the old WWW, and when you watch him, he is exactly like the preflight ranting promos of bullshit. Our GOP criminal thugs follow the WWW media scam to a tee.

(1,603 posts)Crazy is an interesting pejorative, and it shows Trump''s age. When he was young, asylums were still a known memory, though many had been closed by then. To be called crazy was saying that a person should be commited. When Reagan defunded mental health, one unexpected side effect was that psychiatric hospitals that had doubled as convenient private prisons, also went away.
Today "crazy" has a different connotation it means cunning, unpredictable, devious or even awe-inspiring, with a considerably more positive interpretation. It is also a sign of how much he fears Pelosi.

(5,401 posts)we have now seen the full range of Trump's 'business acumen' as applied to US politics, and his 'ability' to belittle his perceived opponents.
It's sad, but that is his full skill set, there is nothing else in his bag of tricks.
He has gone into hiding, occasionally peering over the parapets of his Fox hole to fire a shot at what he perceives to be his closest enemy. And Twittering weird stuff from the past that he believes support him. Bigly sad.
It's just taking a while for his followers to realize he has fizzled out.
Nancy is doing it right. Sitting back and giving Trump room to melt down all by himself.
