The Velveteen Ocelot

This is sad: 200+ low-income people displaced by a fire this morning.

The Drake Hotel was a very old building that has been used for low-income housing for ages, and it was all these people had. I hope other places can be found for them to live and their belongings replaced.

"with the clothes on their backs".

My mom & her sister lived there when they came up to "the cities" in the early '40s Then my parents lived there right after they were married in '46. I have some pictures of it back in its heyday, it was a nice building and the residents who were living there now deserved to have it kept up better than it has been.
