This is about right and wrong

I shall never comprehend all those people who state with certainty "this impeachment will get Trump re-elected, charge up his base, bring out the big donor bucks etc et al ". It is a nonsense. How can they possibly know how the average voter will react as more of the poisonous regime that is this administration drips into the consciousness of the typical American?

This is about right and wrong. Right? Law. Governance. Democracy. This is not just about Trump; it is about how the Office of the President must conduct itself.

Even if the republicans are demonstrably unable to distinguish between right and wrong, even if the impeachment goes nowhere because this republican senate is a bastardisation of morality, ethical decision making and justice. Even if they have enthusiastically sold their souls to a man that would throw them in front of the first bus to help himself.

Even if, all of this, there will be a reckoning. No-one, not even the cult that is Trump can be allowed to abuse the presidential office with impunity. America will not stand for it in the end. Once this over, when the dust has settled on this period on our history, for those who have perpetrated these attacks upon democratic norms there will be a reckoning.

Or am I just feeling optimistic cause season of goodwill and all that? Happy Christmas everyone. I am off to indulge in Christmas Crackers, Fizz and far too much food. Catch you on the other side. Much love to you and yours from across the pond.

It is nonsense to believe that impeachment will help Trump, to me that's a right wing narrative that Democrats should scoff at.

I know one thing for sure, impeachment doesn't help Trump personally. It's especially a killer when a narcissist is impeached. We shouldn't be afraid to push narratives that Trump is only the 3rd president to be impeached, the only president to be impeached in his first term, who got the most votes to be impeached ever. Sing it long and sing it hard in between a few Christmas carols.

Impeaching -45 was the PATRIOTIC thing to do.

His followers apparently are okay with allowing him to do whatever he wants to do for his own benefit. I absolutely love President Obama, but I would not have been okay with him having unfettered power and/or allowing him to break our laws.

Rage and vindictiveness is the air Republicans breathe. Actually challenging the placement of a scumbag like Kavanaugh on the SC "charged them up. Anything short of kissing their asses charges them up, saying the truth that they are deplorable or cling to their bibles and guns charges them up.

They are going to come out like a trove of satanic locus next November regardless of what we say or do, they will gin themselves into lunatic rage.

People need to understand that we havd to find a way to match their crazed passion, and find a way to get every single person of decency in this country to join our ranks.

There will be a record voter turn-out in 2020. It will be close to 65%. Democrats will win a landslide victory for the White House, at least a 50-50 tie for the Senate (with our VP deciding future votes), and maintain the control of the House.

either way. Trump's base can get more riled up, but so can we. The question is - which group will be angrier to get out the vote?

Edited to add: Impeach the motherfucker. It's the right thing to do.

Not just Trump, but the whole Republican party and the Evangelicals will eventually pay a price for putting Trump up on a pedestal. I believe in the law of karma. Actions have consequences, and eventually the causes and conditions for Trump's fall will reach critical mass. Nothing happens until critical mass occurs. But I see the causes and conditions are accumulating. The 2016 election that gave the House to the Dems was a huge indication, as is his impeachment.

People are exhausted with Trump. The constant chaos, stupidity, and hatred is overwhelming.

but I agree with you about karma, and agree with you that 2018 was an omen of another blue tsunami headed straight at Republicans.

Sad part about it is that we need a tsunami to counter all of the GOP cheating, dirty tricks and lies, but we will succeed, we have to succeed.

American society is in serious need of reforms. I just don't know if I will see them in my lifetime. I'm 72, 73 next March. It's time for the younger generations to take the baton and run with it.

will fire up our base. My greatest fear is that the election is already in the bag; between voter suppression, Russian (Saudi?) and who know who meddling and vote total rearrangement, it is already over. Then what?

seeking re-election. It's never happened before and repugs did not do well in the 2018 blue wave election or the recent off-year contests.

Many, especially suburban, white women, have buyer's remorse after witnessing three years of the debacle and embarrassment of the orange a-holes admin. Why should the trend change in 2020 with an a-hole who has the stain of impeached on him to add to his negatives?

Based on formerly *sane* people in my life who now support Trump because of their 401(k)s, I'm not convinced there will be a reckoning. I truly hope I'm wrong. Social media is full of his cult-like base -- the ones who would turn a blind eye to him offing someone on 5th Avenue. *That* America will stand for it. Voter registration, voter ID, and GOTV will be CRUCIAL. Example: North Carolina's Voter ID requirement goes into effect in 2020. No one should be caught off-guard.

Nonetheless, Merry Christmas!
