Fr. Matthew Barzare and parishioners of St. Anne Church in Cow Island enlisted the help of a cropduster pilot to bless their community. They loaded 100 gallons of holy water into the plane and the pilot sprayed the water onto the town and the nearby farms. Parishioners also brought water from home to the airstrip to be blessed by Fr. Barzare. The blessing was the brainchild of L'Eryn Detraz, a missionary currently stationed in Ohio who is a native of Cow Island. A happy and blessed Christmas to everyone from St. Anne Church and parishioners!

No news yet as to whether it worked to change any sinners or non-believers into more saintly, religious folk.

(6,075 posts)1. Tanks in cropdusters usually carry concentrated pesticides or herbicides. Were the tanks fully washed and decontaminated to avoid spraying hazardous chemicals onto people who never were asked if they wanted to assume some risk?
2. Considering the unorthodox (heh) nature of the operation, was the flight fully insured to cover the possibility of mishap?
3. Unless we grant that the idea of "holy water" is just superstitious bullshit, what is the effect of holy water on...well...anyone? If it has some effect on people and that effect isn't wanted, isn't that assault?
4. In general, is it a good idea to perform your religious ritual on someone without asking them first?

How does seeing or touching a crucifix make you feel?
Does sunlight also burn like hell?
If you answer yes to any (or all!) of these questions, I think I miiiight know whats going on...

(37,160 posts)Having cropdusters spray evangelical sites (churches, mini-stadiums posing as churches, etc.) with Catholic holy water.
Encourage them to say something , umm.... impolitic among conservative religiousitators.

Pro Tip for all you Trump Chemtrail Nutters:
Spraying them at altitude would drift a state or two over before landing on the ground. The wind changes direction every several thousand feet, so it would be impossible to perform a precision application if performed at 30K feet.
You need to do it when the air is calm, which is before daybreak.

(4,066 posts)It seems to me this has a lot of issues with it. Not the least of which is performing a religious ritual on people who might not desire it. I doubt crop-dusters are allowed to fly over towns and disperse anything without some sort of permission. If the pilot did this without that he should lose his license.

(10,952 posts)Could any of those that had water dumped on them have a civil case to sue the crop duster pilot and the St. Anne Church priest and parishoners (or file a police report for criminal charges)? The comment that most crop dusters would have chemical residule in the tanks would raise the possibility that the "holy" water might becone contaminated and potentially dangerous.
