Traveling to grandma's house for holiday dinner tonight?

Happy Holidays from the U.S. Space Force!

I guess that means when they sense a threat, they might cut it off.

I believe that to be true. The Air Force has been wanting to unload GPS for years. Firestorm49 Dec 2019 #10

Yep, during Jimmy Carter's administration. Of course, neither he or Ford will get any credit for it TheBlackAdder Dec 2019 #3

That other thing will be the shortest lived branch in US military history. Stock up on patches and stationary. 25 years from now, they'll be worth a fortune and the next generation will wonder what the fuck was wrong with us.

Is Dolt 45 also going to announce that his administration also just invented the short-wave radio?

Handheld unit. Connecting with 3 satellites got your location within 1 meter.

I didn't know it went back to Carter and Ford admins.

Prototypes were launched in the 70s. The entire system wasn't qualified as "operationally capable" until later.

Quite a few Presidents, including some of the bad ones, have the opportunity to take some credit.

The last biggest step was taken by Clinton, who removed selective availability which granted civilians the same accuracy as the military.

Was designed so that we can more accurately bomb people.

After the soviets shooting down a Korean aircraft that wondered into Russia technology, the President of the US at the time promised to make available to everyone worldwide.

One of the very few positive things that Reagan ever did.
