(30,439 posts)He endorsed the APPROACH.....which is a balanced approach of spending cuts AND tax increases.
The Republicans want all spending cuts, especially to programs like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security and no defense cuts either.

We have a MIGHTY NEED for a tea-party-like movement for liberals. Personally, I would call us "New Deal Democrats". But the first priority of such a movement would have to be to do no harm to overall Democratic prospects at the polls.
Change must come from within the Democratic Party. Third parties are counter-productive under our system, and the Republican Party is a lost cause.
