The very first time I voted for a Democrat was in 2004, it is my proudest vote ever (John Kerry). I remember the convention that year and I think it was Clinton giving a brilliant speech and I turned to my cat and said, "Cat...we're gonna win this thing."

Then we lost. Optimism feels good, but the machine will ramp up against truth very soon.

They're only as good as the people operating them. I voted for Jimmy Carter in my first election. Since then I've seen the GOP machine in action, run by some very good operators. Romney's guys?
