Republicans will use procedural motions to slow things down. They have already begun that process, and will continue to do so at every opportunity. Prepare to be bored.
Republicans will have equal time to debate the process. If you listen closely, you will hear the same White House-generated talking points repeated over and over again. That is because each Republican member who speaks is really speaking to the folks back in his or her district. They will see the brave member speak out again and again in campaign ads. Prepare for repetition.
Prepare never to hear the word "Democratic" used as an adjective by any Republican. They have been carefully taught to use "Democrat" as an adjective at all times. Newt Gingrich started that to try to turn the word Democrat into a slur. Today, even some media reporters use that incorrect word. Newt succeeded.
Prepare to hear Democratic members use phrases like "rule of law," "constitutional responsibility" and other terms that accurately reflect what these proceedings are trying to protect. Do not expect to hear those phrases from any Republican.
But, above all, prepare to be bored. Congress is boring, most of the time. So much time is spent in arguing over parliamentary rules that it can be hard to find the meat hiding among all that bread. Prepare to be frustrated, too, since Republicans will have ample time to condemn Democrats for even thinking about impeaching "God's chosen one."
