Over the years, we've seen many tornadoes head through an area to the NW of us. It seems the mountains and river valleys steer them onto a SW-NE track, and away from us. Only twice have we had to take shelter, and even then, the area that got hit was to the NW.

I only remember a few tornadoes going through Huntsville proper, but one of them in 1989 was very lethal -- happened while I was attending college out of state, and struck without warning.

Cell stretched 63 miles over 3 parishes. Scary. My family was fortunate.
