Thousands Of Chinese Students 'Forced To Work On New iPhone 5,' Chinese Media Reports

Thousands of students from the eastern Chinese city of Huai’an are being “forced to work on the new iPhone 5,” according to a report in the government-published Shanghai Daily, citing online posts.

A main Apple supplier, Foxconn Technology of Taiwan, hired 200 students from Huaiyin Institution of Technology and was paying the students $244 per month for working six days a week, the report said. The students had to make payments for their food and housing, it noted.

Students from at least five other colleges said they “were being forced to work for 12 hours a day” after Foxconn couldn’t find sufficient workers, the article said.

If I was in the market for an iPhone, I'd gladly shell out a few extra bucks for a "Made in the USA" model.
