Some of them kicked my ass in Catholic school, but most were like the nuns on the bus.

(6,843 posts)if the good sisters had some more power. The priests have all but forgotten everything but abortion. They are all one issue oriented. Weird. It was not like this growing up.

(63,221 posts)All they care about is control and power. They are as corrupt as any CEO or Repulican politician.

(75,480 posts)I have know good priests, particularly those who worked in poor parishes with the underclasses. They were devoted to their work. Then there were the ones who were political and did everything they could to rise in the diocesan hierarchy. Those I didn't have much time for.

(63,221 posts)and also with the child molestation scandals. The corruption in the church is mainly attributed to priests, although I agree that not all priests are the problem. There are many good ones, but most of the corruption is due to the dominance of the men in power in the church.

The definition of their jobs leans towards good.
But they're human.

(63,221 posts)No human being can ever achieve that status and they should admit to themselves that they actually ARE human, rather than pass judgement on other mortals for their humanity and condemnig them instead.

(75,480 posts)However, one of the things they made us do was community service. It was along their principles of doing social work. We had to take one Saturday morning a month and help other people. Some of my classmates visited poor families and gave them food baskets and clothing. I was usually assigned to the VA to visit the vets in the cancer ward. Many of them didn't have family close enough to visit them so it was my job. I played cards with them and just visited. The nuns told me they requested I visit them so that's what I usually did. What the nuns didn't know was that I was a very good card player and had a good repertoire of dirty jokes, which is why I think they liked me .
