"SNIP.....
President Donald Trump's so-called phase-one trade deal with China achieved almost nothing even after American consumers and farmers footed the bill for his trade war over the past 18 months, the New York Times columnist Paul Krugman said on Sunday."
However Trump may try to spin this, he lost," the Nobel Memorial Prize-winning economist tweeted. "Trump has made us weak, neither trusted by our allies nor feared by our enemies."
Krugman said American consumers paid for the tariffs, farmers suffered, businesses would remain uncertain about US trade policy, and the Chinese learned that "Trump talks loudly but carries a small stick, and can be rolled."

(13,903 posts)then he gets this "deal" where he cut the tariffs if they buy ag products supposedly more than they were before.
Is this free market where you force your trade partnes to buy ag products even if they don't need them?
Is China going to abide by the agreement............not fn likely.
Usual Trump MO. cause a problem, come up with some grift to "fix" it and proclaim victory.

(51,643 posts)A TV reality TV "star" is worse. When will we ever learn? Our country has become joke and others are literally laughing at us. I would be too if it weren't happening to us and was our new reality.

(19,569 posts)All that $28 billion is on the shoulders of we US taxpayers. Ever single cent is our burden to repay.
Where are the Republicans who trashed the auto bailout now?

(4,341 posts)to those farmers who need it most, it has gone to the big conglomerates in the farming industry. What else would we expect from these grifters?

(14,498 posts)They're created so Trump can appear to ride in like the white knight and fix the problem - which didn't exist or was already being worked on through normal diplomatic channels (the slow, standard process).
All this is being done for the big show.....entertainment if you please, just to retain power. It's a shame so many Americans fall for this bullshit and wind up paying for it with money that's wasted and which is sorely needed to fix REAL problems.
In terms of scale, this is one of the largest Rethug scams ever - right up there with their massive tax cuts of past decades, but W's war on Iraq being the granddaddy of them all. We'll notice all Rethug politicians follow in lockstep and parrot all tRump administration lies.
